Job Summary
Occupational Therapy Consultants, Inc. (OTC) is dedicated to providing inclusive and affirming services to all students. We seek a compassionate and skilled Speech-Language Pathologist to support students with diverse communication needs, including those related to speech, articulation, language, and cognition The ideal candidate will collaborate with Child Study Team (CST) members and families to develop and implement strategies that respect and celebrate neurodiversity, fostering each student’s unique strengths. This role also involves providing case management for students with speech-only difficulties.
Job Functions
- Deliver Inclusive Treatment: Provide speech and language therapy services that are respectful and supportive of neurodiverse students, focusing on their individual needs and strengths.
- Demonstrate Expertise: Apply current knowledge of best practices and neurodiversity-affirming strategies in speech-language pathology.
- Conduct Comprehensive Evaluations: Perform evaluations using standardized and non-standardized tools that are culturally and neurodiversity-appropriate, accurately identifying each student’s strengths and areas of need.
- Communicate Effectively: Maintain clear and respectful communication with teachers, families, and CST members, ensuring understanding and collaboration in both formal and informal settings.
- Complete Documentation: Ensure all written work, including progress notes and annual reviews, is completed timely, legible, and accurate, adhering to professional ethics and neurodiversity-affirming principles.
- Manage Billing: Submits all required billing, service verification logs, and semi-monthly billing promptly.
- IEP Competency: Develop and implement strategies that align with each student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), ensuring they are respectful of the student’s neurodiversity and measurable.
- Adapt Interventions: Select and adapt activities to incorporate a variety of intervention models, continually assessing and modifying approaches to support each student’s progress.
- Seek Supervision: Proactively seek supervision and consultation to enhance clinical performance, focusing on neurodiversity-affirming practices.
- Participate in Meetings: Attend and actively contribute to IEP meetings, advocating for neurodiverse students.
- Problem Solving: Demonstrate the ability to independently reason and solve problems, showing respect for the diverse perspectives of students, staff, and others.
- Professionalism: Exhibit tact, initiative, and judgment in all duties, fostering an inclusive and respectful environment.
Requirements
Formal Education and Job-Related Experience
· Thorough knowledge of theoretical principles and clinical applications in diagnosing and managing communication and swallowing disorders, with an understanding of neurodiversity.
· Knowledge of typical and atypical development patterns is desirable.
Certification
· Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from ASHA or eligibility.
· New Jersey Department of Education Speech-Language Specialist Certificate.
License
NJ State Speech-Language Pathology license or eligibility.
Education and Experience
· Master’s Degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
· Evidence of continuing education to meet licensing requirements and support neurodiversity-affirming practices.
· Experience with Gestalt Language Processing (GLP), Augmentative Communication and Self-Regulation/Sensory Approaches are preferred.
