With program offerings available to children 3 ½ -13 years old, Dexter Southfield has a camp for every child. Dexter Southfield’s 36-acre campus, located just five miles from downtown Boston, allows campers to try their hand at many different activities. Whether they are swimming in our on-campus pool, learning new skating drills or perfecting their backhand in the Kraft Fieldhouse and Arena, scoring goals and touchdowns on one of our many fields, exploring the Playscape, or competing in STEM challenges in the Clay Center, the opportunities for exploration are endless!
Currently available positions
- JUNIOR CAMP COUNSELORS: Junior Camp seeks counselors who are 17 and older to enthusiastically interact with 3.5-5 year old children as they cycle through six or more daily activities.
- DAY CAMP COUNSELORS: Day Camp seeks counselors who are 17 and older to enthusiastically interact with 6-10 year old children as they cycle through six or more daily activities.
- LIFEGUARD: The pool staff seeks lifeguards ages 16+ to help provide a safe and organized atmosphere to our camp's daily swim operations over a course of eight weeks, including providing swim lessons to young campers. Candidates must have current lifeguard and CPR/AED certifications. Will ensure safety of campers in the pool, lead swim lessons, and maintain safe environment on the pool deck.
Additional roles that can be added on to the above positions:
- EXTENDED DAY COUNSELORS (to be combined with above positions): Our extended day program seeks counselors who are 15+ to enthusiastically interact with 3.5-13 year old children in our after hours program ending at 5:30 p.m. Counselors interested in this program will work with the camp they have been hired for (Junior, Day, Hockey, Sci-Tech, etc.) starting at 9:30 a.m. and ending their day at the extended day program at 5:30 p.m. Please also apply for counselor position in preferred camp(s) in this application. These later hour positions are limited. Please note that no bus transportation is available for staff members working in this position.
About Our Team
Our camp team works to create a space for children to grow and learn throughout the summer. With a variety of activities offered by each of our nine camps, there is opportunity to try something new each week during our season. Starting on June 17, the camps operates for seven to eight weeks of the summer, depending on the camp, and works with children who possess a beginner or intermediate knowledge of all offered activities.
About You
The preferred candidate is a mature and responsible person able to balance safety and fun in an incredibly fast-paced environment. You will be able to work for the full camp season and attend staff trainings prior to the season’s beginning on June 17. As the camp season at Dexter Southfield sees children 3 ½ to 13 years old who sign up on weekly basis, you should be able to adapt to changing conditions. In everything you do, you demonstrate an ability to assume increasing responsibility and tackle even the most challenging assignments with integrity, humor, and sound judgment.
To be successful in this role, you must be able to:
- Plan to arrive at work by 7:45 a.m. and work until 3:45 p.m. each day.
- Effectively manage child behavior in a fast-paced environment.
- Display sound judgement in the event of an emergency.
- Maintain relationship and open communication with camp leadership team.
- Collaborate with the Camp Directors and camp leadership team to ensure that the program is following all protocols.
- Actively participate in activities to uphold a sense of community throughout the season.
- Attend pre-camp and in-service staff trainings.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned by the Camp Director or his/her designee.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least one year of experience working at a camp or a similar role that works with children.
- Current and ongoing certifications in first aid, CPR, and AED a plus.
- Demonstrate an ongoing willingness to be knowledgeable, nurturing, friendly, compassionate and a respectful member of the Dexter Southfield community.

This employee will be responsible for a wide range of physical activities in multiple locations on and off campus in all types of weather. There will be times of strenuous activity physical activity as well as times of prolonged computer and desk work and everything in between these two.
