Sunflower Bakery, is non-profit, social enterprise that uses food as a lever to enable pathways for employment for young adults with learning differences through skilled job training and employment opportunities in the baking and hospitality industries. Sunflower workforce development training programs include Pastry Arts and Hospitality Employment and a pre-employment Teen Exposure

Sunflower is looking to grow and scale our impact in the community. To support this work, Sunflower is looking for dynamic individual to serve as a Hospitality Instructor. The Hospitality Training Program teaches industry-specific skills to prepare our students to secure employment in the hospitality sector of the food-service industry. Our classroom and hands-on approach include customer service, packaging, handling transactions, answering phones, barista skills, packaging, merchandising and soft employment skills. Emphasis is placed on teaching how to closely follow verbal and visual directions, precision and accuracy, efficiency and problem-solving.
Job Description
Sunflower Bakery seeks a hospitality instructor to develop, plan, and instruct daily lessons that engage and motivate our students to learn and exhibit excellent customer service skills. A component of this position includes a customer- facing training component at our Bakeshop. The hospitality instructor’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to: running daily training classes with 4-6 students, implementing educational and interactive lesson plans, scheduling shifts for students, and monitoring students’ progress. To be successful in this role, a candidate should have work experience in the hospitality field and in teaching and/or training. The ideal candidate will have experience in or understanding of people with learning disabilities. Ultimately, the position is responsible for providing our students with the knowledge and skill set needed to secure and sustain entry level employment in the hospitality field.
Responsibilities
Instruction/Curriculum Development
● Teach classes with 4-6 students, 4 cohorts/year
● Develop and teach a hospitality curriculum that is responsive to both employers needs and the needs of our students
● Create and schedule interactive and experiential lesson plans that are flexible to different learning types
● Advise students on the best ways to resolve issues with customers and employers and deliver excellent customer service
● Ensure expectations are understood by students regarding attendance, appearance, and
● Support other programs, as needed
Reporting/Tracking
● Create weekly and monthly progress reports and submit to Sunflower Program Director for review and feedback
● Meet with students and families to go over progress reports
● Track hospitality graduates and work with Sunflower Job Coach to understand how curriculum should be evolved based upon feedback from employers and students
Bakeshop Management
● Work with students to teach them how to work in our bakeshop with minimal coaching
● Oversee the students and volunteers helping with the bakeshop
● Create schedule for the bakeshop to ensure it is properly staffed
● Develop and implement opening and closing procedures
● Keep accurate count of cash drawer
● Work with students to apply training and provide exceptional customer experience
Qualifications and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
● Bachelor’s degree and 3 + years’ work experience as a teacher, trainer, or hospitality, additional certification (e.g. in Education or Hospitality) is a plus
● Demonstrated ability and/or experience working with young adults with learning differences
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage and motivate students
● Strong organizational skills, excellent time management and ability to work independently and as part of a team
● Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google
● Positive attitude and ability to practice patience

Position
This is a full-time salaried position. The normal hours will be Monday- Friday 8:30-5:00pm. This position reports to the Program Director.
