JOB SUMMARY
The Junior Systems Administrator is responsible for assisting the Systems Administrator in the implementation, maintenance, and administration of the City’s enterprise network systems. The employee is expected to have knowledge and experience in server operating systems, virtualization, enterprise software applications, and security administration. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Systems and Support Manager with latitude for independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Installs, administers, and troubleshoots server operating systems.

Installs, administers, and troubleshoots virtualization solutions.

Installs, administers, and troubleshoots enterprise server and storage systems.
-
Installs, administers, and troubleshoots directory services and associated services.
-
Installs, configures, and troubleshoots enterprise server applications.
-
Performs troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common problems; provides systems support to help desk and desktop support.

Works with other administrators to install and maintain servers, workstations, and other network services hardware and software, assigning and restricting access as necessary to protect the integrity of the network functions.

Monitors service levels of hardware and software according to specifications; audits the performance of Information Technology activities.

Maintains system performance by performing system monitoring and analysis and performance tuning, troubleshooting system hardware, software, networks, and operating and system management systems, and escalating application problems to vendors.

Collects, analyzes, and manages performance and capacity to identify trends to prevent system disruptions and downtime.

Creates documentation related to system configurations and diagrams, troubleshooting and problem resolution details, and site-specific technical procedures and processes.

Secures systems according to specifications, monitoring control and evaluation, testing disaster recovery policies and procedures, completing back-ups, and maintaining documentation.

Upgrades server-based systems by conferring with vendors and service providers; testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements and new software.

This position is mission essential, and an employee may be required to work during a declared or undeclared emergency at the discretion of the Chief Technology Officer.

This position requires the incumbent to participate in the after-hours On-Call Duty schedule.

Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related or logical in assignment to the position.

Education and Experience:
Associate’s degree in Information Technology or related field and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.
Special Qualifications:
For positions requiring the operation of City vehicles, must possess a valid current Florida driver's license, or be able to acquire one within 45 days of hire. Employee must be able to clear a FDLE/CJIS background check and security exam.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is generally light to medium and may require exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
