JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Retail Associate

Your primary responsibility will be assisting customers with incoming and outgoing mail, packages and related products and services. You will play a critical role in ensuring smooth and timely mail operations while providing the best customer experience. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have strong organizational skills and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Store: Follow operating procedures to open or close the store, manage register and POS console and respond to customer inquiries via phone and/or email. Assist customers with transporting packages or boxes from the store. Perform related duties as required. Maintain regular, consistent attendance, punctuality and professional appearance. Maintain tidiness in the work space.
- Packaging: Safely and efficiently package products according to established guidelines and standards, ensuring proper protection and presentation.
- Shipping: Prepare packages for shipment by selecting appropriate packaging materials, sealing boxes, and affixing shipping labels or postage. Coordinate with shipping carriers to schedule pickups and ensure timely delivery. Assist customers with filing claims.
- Printing: Assist customers with printing, copying, and faxing requests.
- Retail: Sell and collect payments for products, such as stamps, office supplies, shipping supplies, retail items and money orders.
- Notary: Provide notary service under terms of DGT Notary Service Agreement.
- Mailbox Rental: Provide mailbox rental, renewal and cancellation services. Place incoming USPS mail in mailboxes. Retrieve delivered packages.
- Inventory Management: Maintain accurate inventory records of packaged, printing, and retail products, including tracking and documenting all outgoing shipments, conducting regular stock checks and replenishing retail displays and racks.
- Quality Control: Perform quality inspections to ensure that products are packaged correctly, accurately labeled and free from any defects or damages before shipment.
- Order Processing: Receive and review customer requests, verify and prepare products for packaging. Collaborate with carriers to resolve any discrepancies or issues.
- Equipment Maintenance: Regularly inspect and maintain store equipment to ensure proper functionality. Report any malfunctions or equipment failures to the appropriate personnel.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials. Stay updated on shipping regulations and requirements to ensure compliance with local, national, and international laws.
- Documentation: Prepare shipping documents, such as invoices, packing slips and customs forms, accurately and in a timely manner.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other store team members to ensure smooth task fulfillment and customer satisfaction.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements in packaging and shipping procedures, suggesting and implementing solutions to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
QUALIFICATION
- Knowledge Of: Employee management and training. Proficient in computer skills and shipping services software. Postal and shipping regulations, options and requirements. Operation of equipment required for package processing and shipping. Storage of supplies. Department operations and policies. Laws and regulations related to activities. Operation of office equipment and software. Customer service. Telephone etiquette. General office procedures.
- Ability To: Manage processes and train co-workers in cross-functional exercises. Operate and maintain postal and shipping equipment. Read, understand and apply postal and shipping regulations. Maintain storage and retail display areas. Interpret and explain policies & procedures. Prepare and maintain records and files. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Meet schedules and timelines.
- Education & Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two years related experience and/or training providing knowledge of postal and shipping regulations and services; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as postal and shipping regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to utilize arithmetic to calculate postage and shipping charges.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to resolve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
