Manual Machinist Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to join our team. You will be responsible for operating and maintaining manual machine tools to produce precision metal parts and components. This role requires a high degree of skill in the use of lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other manual machining equipment. The Manual Machinist will read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints, ensure the accuracy of machined parts, and adhere to strict safety and quality standards.
Manual Machinist Responsibilities
- Set up and operate manual lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other manual machining equipment to produce precision parts
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical instructions to determine machining requirements
- Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds based on material and part specifications
- Inspect and measure finished products to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards using precision measuring instruments
- Make adjustments to machine settings as necessary to maintain product quality
- Document and report any non-conforming parts or deviations from specifications
- Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers
- Troubleshoot and resolve machining problems as they arise
Manual Machinist Position Requirements
- Must be able to operate multiple machines including manual lathes, manual mills, horizontal boring mills and vertical turret lathes
- Must understand materials, cutting tools, speeds and feeds, and machining technique
- Re-machine parts to repair them and still maintain critical dimensions
