Scope of Work:
The Chaplain shall have the overall responsibility of the Protestant Community Religious Activities and shall provide services in support of the Armed Forces Retirement Home - Washington (AFRH-W).
Support programs shall be consistent with AFRH-W Instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Religious Activities.
Chaplains must be indorsed by their faith.
The choice to receive spiritual or pastoral care always remains the private choice of the Veteran. The type and extent of spiritual and or pastoral care provided must be commensurate with the needs, desires, and voluntary consent of the individual Veteran.
The Ideal Candidate will:
- provide services based on 40 hours per week, Tuesday to Friday and Sunday.
- Conduct Sunday religious services.
- Conduct regular pastoral visitation for AFRH Residents as part of the overall Chaplain pastoral support program.
- Conduct rites and sacraments such as communion, baptism, marriage, funeral, and worship services in accordance with the established procedures of their particular faith group.
- Provide pastoral counseling with Residents, staff, and family members as needed.
- Support spiritual care for Residents who are in outside treatment settings.
- Render "Holistic care" for the whole person, tailored for the individual patient's need and requests; this care emphasizes the balance of the physical, mental, environmental, emotional, social, and spiritual aspects of the human experience.
- Understand that the Resident is entitled to receive care in any setting, venue, or program.
- Provide spiritual and pastoral care to Residents' family members when needed.
- Develop and conduct religious services, including special services such as Thanksgiving Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Christmas Day, and Easter. Such services shall be ecumenical and non-denominational in character when scheduled.
- Subscribe to and support the visions and goals of pastoral care as outlined by the Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) of the AFRH-W.
- Maintain a full and active ecclesiastical endorsement while continuing employment at the Home.
- Adhere to the Chaplains' dress code while on duty. Such code shall include clerical dress shirt for men, or dresses and dress slacks for women, or other business attire for both.
- Setup religious facilities, equipment and liturgical appointments for programs and worship services; and assist and/or instruct other Chaplains or volunteers during these services.
- Prepare and submit supply requisitions to the AFRH-W Resident Services Office for approval.
- Prepare and submit forms and reports to the Chief, Resident Services as required by the AFRH-W instructions and Religious Activities Standard Operating Procedures.
- Organize and distribute devotional, religious education and publicity materials as supported by the various programs sanctioned by the Chaplains' Office.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Must be an Ordained minister of the Protestant Denomination, in good standing, with references.
- 5 years minimum experience as an independent pastor of a congregation
5 years minimum experience in working with a residential/healthcare geriatric population.
