Job Description:
Under the direction of the Dean of Natural Health & Science and the Director of the Surgical Technology Program, the Adjunct Instructor is primarily responsible for the supervision and instruction of Surgical Technology students in clinical and lab settings.
Laboratory:
- Provide high quality teaching/instructing to Quincy College students in the Surgical Technology Lab

Prepare and clean-up laboratory before and after each scheduled session.

Participate in inventory control to determine when supplies are needed.

Perform skill demonstrations and assess return demonstrations from each student.

Participate in the assessment process as appropriate.

Administer "Prescription for Practice" forms and/or laboratory warnings when/if appropriate.

Participate in meetings with each student to discuss performance following lab practical exams.

Review weekly student skill assessments for each student to determine where additional instruction is needed.

Record skill assessment sheets for each student.

Maintain appropriate expertise and competence through continuing professional development.

Understanding of and commitment to education and working with a diverse student population
Clinical:
- Act as a resource and liaison between Quincy College and the clinical affiliates.

Responsible for maintaining assigned students' evaluations and attendance records on a weekly basis; identifying, preparing and distributing clinical warnings when necessary.

Participate in orientation with the clinical affiliate(s) as required.

Participate in the administration and grading of clinical monthly and final exams at each clinical affiliation.

Work with Surgical Department to arrange for surgical cases and corresponding preceptors to meet clinical case requirements.

Communicate to clinical preceptor student's clinical objectives, expectations and behavior while in the clinical setting.

Exhibit professional behavior and serve as a role model for students.

Create a positive and supportive learning environment, including being an advocate for the student's status as a learner.

Give each student timely feedback about his/her performance and provide suggestions for improvement.
-
Be available for student's questions and learning needs.

Promote patient and student safety.
-
Meet as needed or required, with the Clinical Director.

Participate in mandatory coursework.
-
Assume other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred; current certification from NBSTSA.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of three (3) years current experience in the Operating Room*

Possession of a current, unrestricted driver's license.

Maintain current state-of-the-art knowledge and skills.

Maintain and provide proof of up-to-date certification (NBSTSA) in Surgical Technology.

Maintain membership in the Associate of Surgical Technologists.

Maintain certification in CPR for the health care provider.
-
Maintain current immunizations and other health requirements needed to work in the clinical setting.

Qualified applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Current operating room experience is defined as three of the last five years spent as a practicing Surgical Technologist and/or as an Instructor of Surgical Technology.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of Quincy College's certification program (Canvas, Quality Matters, Canvas Studio) for teaching or, in the sole determination of Quincy College, the equivalent of that program
Possess a valid driver's license.
