Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a TIG (GTAW) Welder at Midwest Stairs & Iron, located in Milwaukee, WI. The TIG Welder will be responsible for performing TIG welding and fabricating metal products according to specifications. They will collaborate with the production team to ensure efficient workflow and quality output. The TIG Welder will also be expected to maintain a safe working environment and adhere to safety protocols.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform TIG (GTAW) welding on various metal components according to specifications and blueprints.
- Set up welding equipment and select appropriate materials based on project requirements.
- Inspect welds for defects and perform necessary repairs or adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Complete projects within deadlines.
- Perform difficult and specialized set up and all position welding on a wide range of similar and dissimilar metals and alloys requiring a high degree of skill and welding technique or involving a considerable number of parts and/or smaller more complicated weldments where alignment, dimensions, and weld quality must conform to strict code, dimensional, general inspection, and test requirements.
- Plan and select welding procedures, welding points, or contact cycles if not prescribed.
- Fit and position weldments having a number of parts, use welding fixtures and jigs where applicable.
- Regulate current and set automatic timing devices if used.
- Work from drawings and job layouts.
- Use measuring and power tools; Square, calipers, protractor, templates, gauges, grinders, sanders, etc. To prepare materials for welding and ensure accurate measurement.
- Requires a thorough knowledge of welding techniques, material characteristics and structural fundamentals.
- Proceed with minimum supervision and direction.
- The work is subject to final inspection and test.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of proven experience as a Welder.
- Proficiency in TIG (GTAW) welding and metal fabrication.
- Experience in operating a forklift.
- Ability to interpret and work from blueprints and specifications accurately.
- Strong mechanical knowledge, welding techniques, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Experience in welding aluminum.
- Strong basic math and measurement skills.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to work as part of a team and/or effectively proceed with minimum supervision and direction.
- Physical stamina, experience in rigging and the ability to lift heavy objects.
- Certification in welding or related field is a plus.
