Internship Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to join our small but ambitious, tight-knit research team. The internship will focus on gathering and analyzing open-source data related to security and political incidents, particularly in Somalia and the Horn of Africa. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest or prior experience in policy-relevant research and a passion for governance, conflict, and security topics.
Key Responsibilities include:
Research and Analysis:
- Conduct research and analysis on various themes related to fragility, focusing on Somalia.
- Summarize and review relevant literature and existing research to support ongoing projects.
- Assist in preparing research reports and policy briefs.
- Participate actively in team meetings, offering updates on research progress and findings.
- Provide administrative support for research projects as required.
Open-Source Data Collection:
- Stay informed about current events and developments concerning governance, conflict, and security in the Horn of Africa.
- Gather open-source data from diverse media sources on security and political incidents.
- Update and maintain incident databases with pertinent information and data points.
- Ensure data accuracy and integrity through rigorous verification and validation processes.
- Monitor and document trends in security and politics across the Horn of Africa region.
Qualifications:
- Current student or recent graduate in Political Science, International Relations, Conflict Studies, Sociology, Statistics, or a related field.
- Strong interest or prior experience in conducting policy-relevant research.
- Ability to gather and synthesize information from diverse sources.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent analytical and research skills.
- Fluency in English is required; fluency in Somali or Arabic is a bonus but not required.
- Proficiency in using research tools and software (e.g., R, Stata, or similar) is a plus.
