Job Duties
- Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.
- Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
- Cuts work piece, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife.
- Melts lead bar, wire, or scrap to add lead to joint or to extrude melted scrap into reusable forms.
- Installs or repairs equipment, such as lead pipes, valves, floors, and tank linings.
- Observes tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
- Inspects grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.
- Removes rough spots from workpieces, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
- Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment.
- Ignites torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc.
- Analyzes engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
- Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
- Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
Experience Requirements
- Previous experience of technical knowledge and training to perform complicated welds and fabrications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Valid driver's license
- Must be proficient in GMAW/SMAW, FCAW, GTAW
Weld Test Specifications
- Pipe weld test: API 1104 Manual Process Welders 6G - GMAW/SMAW Test And GMAW/SMAW
- Branch Test 1st Test - GMAW Stringer with SMAW fill & Cap (ER80S-D2 GMAW / 8018 C3 SMAW) in the 6G position.
- The 6G will be radiographed for acceptance. - If it passes, they will move on to the 2nd test.
- 2nd Test - will take the API 1104 Branch Test (two 12" Pipes) T Joint Facing Down. If the branch test is visually acceptable, both the 6G and the branch test will be sent out to a 3rd Party Testing Facility to be destructively tested.
- Wall thickness for testing can be up to 1.250” (Usually .375 to .500) Diameter of pipe for testing can be between - .750 - 54" (Usually 12”)
- Test will be 6G Fixed Position Test
- You are allowed 4 hours to take each test
Schedule
- Shift is a weekend shift Friday through Sunday 6:00am to 6:30pm. Will work 36 hours for 40 hr pay) and then 60 hours can be had on any days Monday through Thursday- 10 hours a day
