Oakland Roots is a professional men’s soccer team that competes in the USL Championship (USL-C), the largest pro soccer league in the United States. Oakland Soul is a pre-professional women’s soccer team that competes in the USL W League.

The People Operations Manager manages and administers the human resource and office processes at all business locations. This role provides core HR functions such as recruiting, onboarding, benefits administration, performance management, professional development, employee appreciation, and compliance.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Hiring and Human Resources:
- Works with Hiring Managers to facilitate recruiting functions including coordinating internal and external job postings, advertising placement, recruiting strategies, recruiting presentations and job fairs; screens applications, contacts leads, conducts phone and in-person interviews and forwards qualified candidates for departmental interviews; ensures candidates in applicant tracking system are dispositioned in a timely manner.
- Coordinates job offers, creates offer letters, schedules pre-employment checks (e.g. background checks); ensures new hire paperwork is completed and accurate according to established company standards and applicable laws.
- Organizes new hire paperwork, creates and maintains employee personnel files according to established company standards.
- Maintains positive employee relations; keeps open communication channels with employees by having daily dialogs, answering questions and explaining policies and procedures; monitors employee morale; and develops and executes employee engagement and development plans.
- Assists team with event planning, employee recognition programs and project work.
- Administers and evaluates New Hire and Exit surveys.
- Ensures compliance with all Federal, State and local laws, as well as USL and club policies according to established standards.
- Tracks and prepares reports on topics such as employment status, turnover, demographic information, performance reviews and job analysis.
- Audits HR data, validates calculations and troubleshoot irregularities in HR data
- Supports performance review processes. Suggests updates/changes as needed.
- Provides performance management process status reports to ensure compliance with guidelines and deadlines
Employee Benefits Administration:
- Performs tasks required to administer company benefit programs, such as group health and welfare plans, life and disability insurance, and 401k, for new hires, current and terminated employees.
- Serves as a primary contact for employees and managers regarding benefit related issues, questions and decisions regarding eligibility or other related topics.
- Coordinates the distribution of informational materials related to employee benefits and leads the annual open enrollment process.
- Maintains company’s internal drive and HRIS system with current benefit plan information.
- Resolves employee issues with insurance providers and other benefit administrators.
- Gathers data needed for monthly benefits billing and ensures accuracy and timeliness of payments.
- Tracks FMLA and STD claims and updates employment status as appropriate.
Assists with HR projects as needed Game Day Responsibilities
- Attends all Roots and Soul home games and provides customer service and other game day support, as needed
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Previous experience working with HRIS/Payroll/ Benefits portal/ systems (Gusto and EASE experience a plus)
- Capacity to work independently and in team settings with concentration on the goal and common good
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and to multi-task
- Sound decision making and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional interpersonal communication and relationship-building skill
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Spanish speaking is preferred.

- Working understanding of human resources principles, practices and procedures.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet competing deadlines.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Proficient with Google docs, Google drive, Gmail, Slack and related software applications.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in human resources or related field and/or equivalent experience.
- Related experience preferred.
- SHRM-CP credential (or working towards) preferred.
