About Our Organization
Safe Exit Initiative (SEI), formerly LIFT, is a Survivor-led, nonprofit organization where Survivors of systems of prostitution and allies collaborate in providing support to victims and survivors of the sex trade - populations that are routinely neglected and marginalized by society. Our mission is to provide quality exit services and supports to individuals in the Sex Trade. We have developed a comprehensive approach to accomplishing our mission which includes advocacy for social change and justice for survivors, leading legislative initiatives at national, state, and local levels, providing training and consulting services to community-based partners such as medical providers, social services agencies, and law enforcement, and developing and delivering education and outreach services for community members and academic institutions.
Jana’s Place
Safe Exit Initiative opened Jana’s Place in October 2019. Jana’s Place is the first-of-its-kind recovery home for women exiting prostitution and in early recovery from substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health disorders. We are looking for candidates excited to join a growing organization working to change the traditional model of recovery to meet the unique needs of women with histories of exploitation in the sex trade. Successful candidates must be open to learning how to implement a multifaceted treatment model, enthusiastic about helping women build their own paths to recovery and committed to creating a culture that promotes social change, reduces inequality for survivors and people in recovery, and embraces autonomy of patients in their own treatment.
Position Summary
Jana’s Place uses both Residential Counselors and Recovery Specialists (RS) to holistically address the needs of our Patients. The RS will provide peer and recovery support services for Patients in the program. These services include but are not limited to facilitating support for Patients in individual and in group settings. Additionally, RS will provide support for Patients experiencing challenges managing trauma-related symptoms and ensure Jana’s Place remains a safe environment for Patients and staff, alike. This position requires the ability to work mixed shifts including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Supporting Patients in achieving individual recovery goals
- Assist patients with medication administration
- Assist Patients with implementing and modeling grounding and healing strategies
- Facilitate individual and group support
- Facilitate non-clinical groups
- Support Patients in strengthening fundamental life-skills such as grocery shopping, housekeeping, meal preparation and other like tasks
- Assist patients in developing time management skills and support patients in managing their schedules and appointments
- Assist Patients in creating, maintaining, and modifying a workable framework to support action steps associated with their identified goals in their Recovery Plan
- Engaging and supporting Patients in adapting healthy life-style strategies
- Participate in regular staff meetings as directed
- Record and file necessary paperwork during evening as needed
- Housekeeping and food preparation
- Communicate with staff members at shift changes and report critical incidents and complete documentation in accordance with policy
- Accompany and transport patients to appointments, as needed
- Complete basic daily documentation
- Assist in crisis intervention, as needed
- Accepting a team approach to household management
- Any other tasks as assigned by Management
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Lived experience preferred, but not required
- Ability to apply independent judgment to determine the appropriate course of action in resolving problems, including in emergency situations
- A personal interest in and commitment to working with women who have been impacted by CSE
- A flexible and positive attitude and belief in the process of surviving and healing from CSE and helping others do so as well
- Possess cultural sensitivity and adaptability to various personalities and backgrounds
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
