The Department of Counseling & Marital and Family Therapy at the University of San Diego is seeking applications for a full-time, visiting Professor of Practice (PoP) in Counseling position for the 9-month academic appointment starting in Fall 2024 in the Counseling Program. This position is a non-tenure track visiting appointment for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Responsibilities: The successful applicant will be expected to teach 21 units (4/3) across the academic year in core and specialization courses in the Counseling Program. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to student advising, admissions, curriculum assessment/development, and general departmental and university service. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach basic and advanced counseling courses in the counseling program and supervise practicum/fieldwork courses. The successful applicant will: contribute to the department’s mission of providing outstanding teaching, research, and service; have an appreciation of diverse constituencies and add to the department’s commitment to diversity; have the ability to collaborate productively with students and faculty at USD; and have strong oral and written communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills.

Job Requirements:
Qualifications: The faculty is especially seeking candidates with a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and social justice, as evidenced by their commitment to diversity as part of their teaching and service. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated strong teaching skills and the ability to articulate service specific to community engagement and social justice. Candidates for this position must meet the following minimum criteria:
- a terminal degree in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program.
- experience teaching Counseling core and Clinical Counseling specialization courses is required;
- evidence of strong or potential for graduate-level teaching;
- active participation in professional counseling organizations; and
- demonstrate a strong commitment to multiculturalism and social justice.
Preferred qualifications for the position include:
- experience working as a practicing LPC/LMHC;
- California LPCC license eligible
- experience teaching research methods and/or psychopharmacology courses
- evidence of leadership in professional counseling organizations
- experience teaching/providing clinical supervision at a high level
