Working under the guidance of the In-Vivo Supervisor, the Research Technician I, is responsible for specific tasks that support our research projects. These tasks include dosing, blood collection, restraining, animal preparation prior to surgery, handling biological samples, and ensuring they're stored properly for future use.
Your role involves assisting in specimen setup following clear step-by-step instructions, recording observations accurately, and collecting data and measurements with attention to detail. This data is fundamental for our research insights. The Technician I is responsible for maintaining the reliability of our research equipment. Your responsibilities will include cleaning, basic calibration, and keeping laboratory tools and instruments in working order. If you notice any issues or malfunctions with the equipment, it's important to report them promptly to the relevant authorities. The Technician I will be responsible for managing research supplies efficiently. This involves keeping an eye on inventory levels, restocking supplies when needed, and making sure the laboratory is well-prepared to support ongoing research activities.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
Laboratory Techniques – 65%
- Assist in performing experiments following established protocols.
- Aid in dosing, sampling, necropsy, and other in-vivo tasks.
- Participate in labeling, restraint, and study preparations.
- Support animal health evaluations.
- Assist in study set-up and preparation.
- Assist with dosing and blood collection in various animals.
- Assist in anesthesia monitoring of laboratory animals.
Documentation and Record Keeping – 20%
- Maintain accurate and well-documented laboratory records according to GLPs (Good Laboratory Practices).
- Communicate effectively within the organization.
- Assist in updating records as necessary.
- Follow and adhere to standard operating procedures (SOP).
Training and Development – 10%
- Complete a training program, including SOP review and hands-on techniques.
- Maintain records and documentation at an acceptable level.
- Foster positive interaction with co-workers.
- Assist with data review and analysis.
- Support other study personnel with guidance and training as needed.
Other Duties and Responsibilities as assigned – 5%
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
- Occasional weekend, early morning or late-night work required.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of GLP and non-GLP data documentation.
- Knowledge of animal health evaluation.
- Knowledge of basic drug formulation.
- Knowledge of anesthesia monitoring.
- Knowledge of good document practices and good lab practices (GLP).
- Knowledge of Animal Care and Use Protocol (ACUP).
- Knowledge of biohazardous materials and their handling.
- Knowledge of study set-up and preparation.
- Knowledge of data review and analysis.
- Knowledge of euthanasia of laboratory animals and disposal of carcasses, biohazardous, and chemical waste following established procedures.
- Knowledge of technical skills related to the job, such as spreadsheet building, coding, programming, and operating equipment.
- Knowledge of and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.
- Ability to keep abreast of the latest technology in relationship to his/her position.

Job Requirements
Minimum Education and Experience:
- 1-2+ years of practical experience in an animal-related field.
- Associate’s degree in related field.
- Registered Veterinarian Technician
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification or Laboratory Animal Technologist (LAT) certification through the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).
