Job Summary:
The Gonzalez Law Group is seeking an Immigration Courts Paralegal with a team mentality and an emphasis on customer service to join our firm. The Immigration Paralegal must have the ability to multitask to meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Candidate must have a high level of efficiency and be computer literate with modern software applications. You will provide overall support to attorneys' business needs. Professionalism and a strong work ethic are paramount.
Duties/Responsibilities:
RELIEF IN REMOVAL PROCEEDINGS (Immigration Court)
- Consult with attorney to determine whether client is eligible for relief for removal.
- Assist client in obtaining necessary documentation for application.
- Prepare forms and supporting documentation for attorney review.
- File or “fee-in” application with USCIS, if required.
- File application with Immigration Court and serve on Immigration and Customs Enforcement Chief Counsel.
- Help attorney prepare for hearing.
- Other paralegal duties for clients who are in removal proceedings:
a. May be required to visit client at the detention center.
b. May assist attorney at motions or bond hearings.
c. May travel to USCIS district office on behalf of or with a client or to hand file an application or motion.
- Assembling and filing the application:
a. Prepare Form I-589, Application for Asylum and Withholding of Removal, for attorney review.
b. Research client’s country conditions.
c. Obtain and organize supporting documentation.
d. File the application and supporting documentation to USCIS or the Immigration Court if client is in removal proceedings.
e. Prepare client for interview and/or merits hearing.
f. Know when to file Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization.
- BIA Appeals
- Maintain a docket of over 150 removal proceeding cases
KNOWLEDGE WILL BE A PLUS IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
- Labor Certification
- Family Based I-130
- Employment Based I-140
- Adjustment of Status – I-485
- Naturalization and Interview process– N-400
Qualifications:
- Two years of experience in Immigration Law (courts specific) required;
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be able to speak, read, and write Spanish fluently (Required).
