The Assistant Director of First-Generation and Student Support Programs reports to the Director of Equity and Care and is a member of the Equity and Care team. This position is responsible for the development and implementation of first-generation college student support services, with attention to the intersections with income and other key demographics. The position also provides case management for students requiring coordinated planning and ongoing additional support.
Key responsibilities include:
First-Generation and Student Support:

Development and implementation of summer onboarding for first-generation and low-income students, focused on the development of affinity and belonging

Development and implementation of programming designed for family members of first-generation and low-income students, to inform them about the college process and create effective partnerships with administrative staff

Development of ongoing programming to support and build community for first-generation and low-income students, focused on key issues in the academic calendar and designed to promote agency, success, and belonging

Development of peer cohort experiences and other student leadership opportunities designed to enhance the success and experience of first-generation and low-income students
- Partnerships with critical programs including Health Promotion, Residential Life, Student Engagement, Student Success, Career Development, DEI, and other offices critical to first-generation and low-income student success

Develop outreach strategies to raise awareness of available support services and encourage participation

Provide administrative and programmatic leadership as designated University representative/advisor for the Paul Hackett, Lettie Pate Whitehead, Achieve Atlanta, and Dream.US scholar cohorts

Supervise and mentor student workers and peer mentors involved in first-generation and student support initiatives.

Use data insights to assess the effectiveness of support programs and make date-driven recommendations for improvement

Develop strategic plan drawing on best and next practices including the Center for First-Generation Student Success
Case Management:
-
Accept referrals from behavioral and/or students of concern processes and provide outreach to students identified as potentially in need of additional support

Serve as co-chair of the Petrel Assessment & Care Team (PACT)

Develop a model for case management, including system of documentation using an available technology platform (likely Maxient)

Maintain accurate records of reported incidents, interventions and outcomes

Collaborate with other offices, including Student Success, the Counseling Center, Disability Resources, Student Rights and Responsibilities, Athletics, and other areas where students receive mentorship and support

Provide effective developmental advising to support students in the development of agency and independence in their academic and co-curricular experience
Student Affairs Responsibilities:

Participates in institutional planning processes, divisional meetings, and represents Student Affairs on request at gatherings that include multiple functional areas.

Participates in major Student Affairs and University events such as Orientation and Commencement.

Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in related field and two (2) years of related work experience

Effective oral and written communication skills

Knowledge of acceptable advising techniques for a diverse student body

Understanding of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite

Experience in supervision of student workers
Preferred Qualifications
-
Master’s degree in student affairs, counseling, or similar field preferred with at least two (2) years of progressive years of experience.

Experience with student retention practices/programs and knowledge of financial aid practices, student development/retention strategies, curriculum standards, instructional strategies, and assessments.

Experience with program development and execution

Ability to interact respectfully with people from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds

Experience with staff supervision, development, and training
