The purpose of this job is to review plans, proposals, and specifications and ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and state and federal guidelines. Administers city’s permitting process; reviews permit applications and associated documents for accuracy and completeness, documents deficiencies, and facilitates meetings with stakeholders to address code-related concerns. Maintains and tracks status for assigned projects.

- Reviews and evaluates proposed plans and specification blueprints to ensure compliance with codes, ordinances, and regulations; identifies and addresses deficiencies in plans and structures.

Facilitates meetings and responds to questions from property owners, developers, contractors, engineers, and architects regarding adopted codes and ordinances.

Coordinates, processes, and manages commercial permit applications. Computes square footage, valuation, and fees for approved permits.

Performs administrative duties.

Reviews current trends and developments in construction. Researches and interprets codes and ordinances; evaluates and recommends improvements to new codes and ordinance adoption.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Planning, Development, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction, or related field.

3 to 5 years’ experience in planning, development, construction, or related field.
Licenses or Certifications
-
For building plan review, must be a Licensed Architect, Professional Engineer, or International Code Council (ICC) Certified Plans Examiner or able to receive certification within one year of hire.

Hardware and software applications such as Microsoft Office, GIS, ArcMap, AutoCAD, and EnerGov.

Relevant laws and regulations pertaining to Stream Buffer Ordinance, Unified Development Code (UDC), city specifications and ordinances, and Missouri Standards for Property Boundary Surveying.
