Description:
The General Manager will be directly responsible for directing all aspects of the business at the Hansen-Mueller (HME) terminal at the Port of Houston. This highly visible position will oversee productivity, costs, revenue creation, maintenance, stakeholder relations, customer service, and overall profitability of the company. Through analysis and asset and personnel management, this position will maximize shareholder value. The position shall implement the priorities of ownership, the growth and profitability of the business, and maintain corporate policies and procedures. The position will safeguard the reputation, employees and assets of the company.
Primary Responsibilities

Ensures performance, productivity and profitability of the company is in line with BOD objectives.

Responsible for generating and managing to an annual HME budget, and periodically reporting such financial performance to BOD.

Oversees all aspects of the day-to-day operations at the HME facility.

Responsible for setting strategic goals, developing and implementing plans, and motivating and inspiring employees.

Proactively engages customers, port staff, government agencies, brokers and agents regarding regulations, service satisfaction, vessel operations, contractual needs and other relevant matters as the situation requires.

General Manager has overall responsibility for the daily operations of Elevator and terminal, including all operational activities, performance management of staff, safety, quality control, budgeting, compliance and regulatory matters

Participates in industry functions and attends meetings.

Upholds local union/non-union and customer contractual obligations.

Ensures adherence to environmental and safety compliance rules, processes and regulations.

Establishes and implements local policies, practices, short- and long-term goals and operating procedures to meet company objectives.

Acts as liaison to port officials and other applicable local and federal agencies and organizations.

Monitors, evaluates and communicates local market conditions, opportunities and constraints.

Ensures adherence to port and all regulatory reporting requirements, as applicable.

Conducting performance evaluations; promptly and appropriately addressing poor performance and/or inappropriate behaviors of employees.

Planning and organizing workloads and staff assignments, establishing performance goals, reviewing progress, advocating for employee development and coaching performance, directing changes in priorities and schedules as needed to assure work is completed in an efficient and timely manner.

Takes ownership of local safety program and works closely with the Safety Director to identify areas for improvement.

Responsible for participating in all mandatory training requirements, as directed by Federal, State, and local government agency directives and company guidelines.

Developing short and long-range plans, goals and objectives for terminal operations.

Oversees, manages and directs daily priorities and projects, labor requisitions, ship loading, unloading and clean ups as well as all other daily procedural matters.

Handles local labor grievances and complaints, coordinates with Human Resources.

Approves purchase orders, supply requisitions and invoices within established scope of authority.

Routinely inspecting facilities to ensure compliance with maintenance, housekeeping, environmental and safety requirements.

Regular, predictable and reliable attendance.

May work weekends and holidays.
Financial Responsibilities

Financial Planning and Analysis – Provide financial forecasts and develop strategic plans to support business growth and financial stability.

Cost control - Review and approve expenditures to ensure alignment with budgetary constraints.

Revenue Management - Develop and implement strategies to increase revenue and profitability.
Commercial Responsibilities

Requirements:
Knowledge/ Experience
8 plus years of progressively responsible, related, experience in dry bulk storage and logistics with a preference for grain commodities and/or maritime operations.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business or logistics, preferred

Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, PowerPoint and Outlook, as well as the ability to learn and effectively utilize other software applications used within the Company

Background in general management with expertise in financial and commercial responsibilities

Valid driver’s license.

Ability to acquire TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card.
