In this newly created role, the Managing Director will serve as a key strategic thought partner to the Executive Director and senior leadership team advancing crucial strategic initiatives and organizational priorities. In support of future growth and sustained impact, the Managing Director will develop and implement CIPE’s global human capital, information technology, and security strategy to strengthen the operational infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Managing Director will be a key leader providing oversight and expertise on the organization’s global expansion and future operational needs. With strong leadership, significant growth, and a solid financial foundation in place, the Managing Director will effectively oversee the operations of CIPE in a way that promotes and supports the organization’s ongoing needs, culture, and values. With the support of a team of 16, the Managing will be responsible for overseeing a budget of $3.25M.
The new Managing Director is expected to bring exceptional leadership, oversight, and enhancement to CIPE’s operations. As such, the Managing Director will be responsible for providing balanced organizational strategies and operational excellence while fostering collaboration, innovation, and transparency. The successful candidate will be an astute human resources and operations leader with a proven track record of high-level strategic planning and operational excellence within an international NGO or similarly complex organization. The Managing Director will be an ambitious leader who has the prerequisite skills and experience to support this growing enterprise in its global expansion efforts. Success in this role will be measured by effective operational oversight, strong collaboration, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively engage with a broad set of stakeholders. The Managing Director must be flexible in their approach and comfortable supporting an evolving global organization during a period of growth.
Key Responsibilities
Serves as an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team advising on operational issues impacting the organization as a whole.
Ensures operational excellence in key areas, including human capital, information technology, and security during a period of tremendous growth.
Provides vision and leadership to CIPE’s HR, IT and security functions advancing the mission and vision of the organization.
Offers leadership and works with the Legal Department to develop policies and procedures aimed at ensuring best practices, maintaining industry standards, mitigating risk, and recruitment and retention of high quality talent.
Monitors industry benchmarks and market data to identify trends and indicators that may impact business operations and future planning.
Provides oversight and expertise on CIPE’s global expansion and potential implications from a human capital, information technology, and security perspective.
Cultivates a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture with a strong sense of belonging as well as oversees the implementation of DEIB initiatives.
Serves as proponent and model of sound business practices that reflect the highest ethical standards aimed at advocating good management practices throughout the organization.
Builds out enhanced international HR, IT, and security capabilities creating growth strategies and providing greater support for global operations.
Fosters a culture of innovation, transparency, and accountability in operations.
Safeguards the organizations human, financial, and physical resources by addressing and mitigating enterprise risk.
Develops a comprehensive, fully integrated, future-oriented operational strategy that supports the vision and values of the organization while ensuring the proper framework, staff, and deliverables are in place.
Builds effective partnerships and strong relationships with leadership, regional directors, centers, and functional teams globally.
Collaborates with the Legal Department on overarching organizational policy, strategic planning, risk management, operational goals and priorities in order to propel the organization forward.
Serves as a strategic thinker and a pro-active human capital and operations leader with high emotional intelligence and excellent interpersonal skills.
Engages, mentors, supports, and motivates staff in their development and integration into the positive values and culture of CIPE.
Provides timely and appropriate analysis and feedback to supervisors on their staff’s progress and support needs.
Experience and Professional Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, human resources, or related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
At least ten years of progressively responsible experience in leadership roles including significant oversight and performance of international and domestic human resources and operations is required.
Experience in a complex, multi-national nonprofit that has multiple programs and locations.
Excellent leadership skills and business acumen to effectively lead a multidisciplinary team with enterprise-wide impact.
A strategic understanding of HR, Security, and IT operations and compliance related issues to support operations globally.
Advanced capacity to think strategically about organizational needs and take initiative to develop and implement.
An openness to new perspectives along with a willingness to explore different approaches.
A strong collaborator with excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written with internal and external customers.
An ability to resolve issues, mediate conflict, and build consensus among a diverse set of stakeholders.
