Under the supervision of the Surgery Director and CNO, the Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for assisting the Director of Surgery with preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care, and ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the surgical process. This position is required to take at least two weeks of surgical call each month. Additionally, the Clinical Nurse Specialist assists leadership with the coordination of continued education, including the implementation and instruction of the DHCHD CNA program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides continuous support to Chief Nursing Officer
- Familiarize with the organizational structure and positions to help with District wide communication.
- Provides weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as assigned by the Surgical Director
- Provides logistical support where needed at the request of the CNO or Surgical Director
- Conducts research on new products, contracts, etc., as assigned by the Surgical Director or CNO
- Communicates with outside sources for resources/needs, as directed by the CNO.
- Communicates with other department directors as assigned by Surgery Director or CNO.
- Provides support to Surgical Director
- Provides logistical support, as directed by the Surgical Director.
- Applies research techniques and data analysis as needed for special projects associated with department’s needs.
- Assists surgical director with staffing and procedural assisting or circulating as well as taking call including weekends at least 2 weeks out of each month or as requested by the director.
- Keeps accurate records for Surgical Department
- Keeps up with outdates for the surgical department for supplies and medications.
- Acts as the liaison with all personnel in the district for Surgery.
- Will sterilize all instruments used from all areas of the district and communicate that the instruments are ready to be picked up.
- Maintains Policy and Procedures up to date for the department, as directed by the Surgery Director.
- Assists with preadmits for all surgery cases, scheduling these and making sure patients sign all paperwork, as directed by the Surgery Director
- Assist Anesthesia with Pain Management cases that require a nurse present, as directed by the Surgery Director.

2 - 3 years: Prior nursing experience in a healthcare facility

- 1 year(s): Certification in Nursing Education (CNE) or similar credential, preferred.
- 2 - 3 years: Prior experience in a surgical setting and/or PACU, preferred.
