Cold Point Corporation is looking for a Lab Build-prep or HVAC Engineering Technician to join our extraordinary team in our new state-of-the-art facility in Rome, NY. Cold Point has a reputation as the Gold Standard in building some of the very best HVAC (Heating and A/C) equipment on the market today.
Position Overview:
The HVAC Engineering Technician will report to the Refrigeration Development Engineer and will be responsible for preparing, setting up, and conducting performance, safety, and reliability testing on heating, air conditioning, and ventilation (HVAC) components, equipment prototypes, and finished products.
The successful candidate must have a knowledge and understanding of HVAC system operation principles including, but not limited to: electrical controls, air flow, refrigerant flow, and heat exchangers.
In addition, skills and experience in sheet metal fabrication and assembly, wiring control boxes, troubleshooting HVAC systems, and reading and understanding Engineering drawings are required.
Qualifications:
· EPA Section 608 Technician Certification for handling refrigerants (required).
· Associate’s degree (or equivalent experience) from a vocational or technical school in HVAC.
· Training and/or certification in refrigeration copper tube bending, drilling, soldering, and brazing. (Preferred)
· Ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and LabView.

Job Responsibilities:
· Prepare HVAC components and equipment for test by making component or part changes, making wiring connections, installing measuring instrumentation, and fabricating test stands and/or fixtures.
· Set up and conduct performance, safety, and reliability testing on HVAC components and equipment per AHRI, ISO, and UL test standards and procedures.
· Trouble shoot, diagnose, and repair electrical and electronic components and wiring, HVAC components, and HVAC equipment to ensure proper operation for testing.
· Operate, maintain, and calibrate all Engineering laboratory test rooms, facilities, stands, and equipment. Assist with the design and building of test fixtures.
· Create/Update engineering documentation, tubing charts, wire charts, and picture charts.
· Provide written test reports using Microsoft Word, Excel, or other programs.
· Maintain, clean, and organize the Engineering laboratory work areas.
