Job purpose
The Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Specialist will work closely with the plant team to support the EH&S management system and compliance at a plant level while driving a strong safety culture. This position is responsible for the development and execution of programs to ensure the company provides a safe workplace for employees.
Duties and responsibilities

Research safety and environmental regulations and provide support for compliance

Facilitate EH&S compliance and management system inspections

Support VP of Ops in the development of policies, programs, and work instructions based on regulatory and internal requirements

Coach plant personnel on EH&S management system practices

Manage data collection and analysis of EH&S metrics and reports including injury and illness, air, waste, energy, and water data

Serve as the plant administrator of any EH&S data management systems
-
Maintain records to support compliance with government permits and reporting

Participate or lead EH&S projects to support energy conservation, best practices, and continuous improvement

Lead the safety committee

Conduct and mentor employees in behavior-based safety observations

Assist with emergency response and evacuation planning

Participate and lead in job safety analysis and risk assessment

Create and deliver EH&S training
-
Assist with management of EH&S record keeping

Lead creation and deployment of site level EH&S communications
-
Report Workers Compensation claims with Leadership Team support

Collarborate with plant leadership relative to light duty opportunities and/or modified work
Qualifications
-
Preferred bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, occupational health and safety or similar field

Preferred 2-4 years of EH&S experience within a manufacturing environment

Preferred to have a proven track record of injury reduction along with improving safety culture

Preferred to have knowledge of federal and state safety and environmental law

Must have strong manufacturing safety experience

Must be trustworthy, honest, and always maintains a high degree of integrity
- Must have an excellent Safety record and a champion of a Safety culture

Must have strong, positive leadership, communication, and organization skills
-
Bilingual skills preferred, not required (English, Spanish)

Must have strong PC skills: MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc

Must be self-motivated with a high degree of integrity and be able to perform job duties with

Working conditions

Must be able to work any/all shifts as assigned or required
- Must be able to work overtime as necessary, including Holidays and/or weekends as required

Hair restraint, beard net (if needed), and Safety gloves where warranted
- Lifting at times of up to 50 lbs. without assistance and standing for most of a shift
