The Jewish Community Center of San Francisco is looking for individuals interested in coaching in our youth soccer program this fall. Applicants should have prior work experience with children ranging in age from 3 to 8 years old. The philosophy of the JCCSF youth sports program is to engage children in learning both sport-specific and life skills in a fun and positive atmosphere. Coaches should embrace these ideas while providing strong leadership and commitment to the program participants.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Model appropriate behavior and leadership while maintaining job performance standards including:
- Develop team objectives in alignment with the JCCSF youth sports program philosophies
- Organize stimulating practices and games, emphasizing fundamental skill development through positive reinforcement
- Provide active guidance to the team during practices and games
- Learn and uphold JCCSF policies and procedures
- Maintain open and effective communication with children, parents, colleagues, and supervisor
- Create team goals and expectations in line with the JCCSF youth sports program philosophies
- Establish and enforce consistent behavioral guidelines and work with players and parents to resolve behavior issues, in conjunction with the Athletics Manager
- Plan practices and games, emphasizing the development of fundamental skills through positive feedback
- Learn and follow league rules and procedures as they apply to practices and games
- Provide consistent communication with children, parents, colleagues, and supervisors
- Use clear and age-appropriate language when explaining drills and strategies.
- Additional duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience working with children aged 3-8 years old.
- Some knowledge of early childhood development and managing behaviors preferred
- Able to work in a team-oriented environment
- Working knowledge of soccer (preferably as a youth coach) at varying levels
- Able to attend coaching clinics and training meetings (August – October 2024)
- Attend all weekday practices and weekend games consistently
- F Licensed coaches preferred
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work one to two weekday afternoons between 3pm – 6pm (Monday-Friday) and daytime hours on Saturdays
- Must be able to commit to working full season (mid-September through early November)
- Reliability and punctuality in attendance. Must have a reliable means of arriving at all practices and games.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is conducted outdoors at fields on the northwest side of San Francisco. Some trainings/meetings/etc held onsite in the JCCSF facility. Work involves ongoing contact with children, parents, and department staff members.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Stand for extended periods of time
- Able to lift 15lbs
- Ability to demonstrate sports-related skills and movements
- Able to work in an outside environment

HOURS/SCHEDULE
4-5 hours per week, one to two weekday afternoons between 3pm – 6pm (Monday-Friday) and daytime hours on Saturdays
