Ensures that all nursing personnel assigned to you comply with the written policies and procedures established for this facility.
- Reviews periodically the department’s facility policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, etc. and makes recommendations for revisions if needed.
- Meets with assigned nursing staff, in planning the shifts’ services, programs, and activities.
- Ensures that the Nursing Service Procedures Manual is current and reflects the day-day Nursing procedures performed in this facility.
- Ensures that all nursing staff is in compliance with their respective job descriptions.
- Participates in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
- Participates in facility surveys made by authorized government agencies.
- Participates in resident’s written discharge plans and the updating of discharge plans.
- Admits, transfers, and discharges residents as required.
- Completes accident/incident reports as necessary.
- Maintains the Daily Census Report.
- Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary
II. Charting and Documentation
- Completes and files required recordkeeping forms/charts upon the resident’s admission, transfer, and/or discharge.
- Encourages attending physicians to review treatment plans, record and sign orders, progress notes, etc. in accordance with established policies.
- Receives telephone orders from physicians and record on the Physicians’ Order Form.
- Transcribes physicians orders to resident charts, cardex, medication cards, treatment/care plans, as required.
- Charts nurses' notes in an informative and descriptive manner that reflects the
- the care provided to the resident, as will as the resident's response to the care.

- Records new/changed diet orders and forwards information to Dietary Department.
- Reports discrepancies noted concerning physicians orders, diet change, charting errors, etc., to the Supervisor.
- Fills out and complete transfer forms in accordance with established procedures.
- Ensures that appropriate documentation concerning unauthorized discharges are entered in the resident's medical record in accordance with established policies.
- Signs and dates all entries made in the resident's medical record.
III. Drug Administration * Prepares and administers medications as ordered by the physician.
- Identifies resident before administering the medication or treatment.
- Ensures that adequate supply of medications are stocked to meet resident need.
- Ensures that narcotic records are accurate for your shift. Report discrepancies.
- Previews medication cards for completeness, and accuracy in transcription of physician's orders and adherence to stop order policies.
- Notifies physicians of automatic stop orders prior to last dose being administered.
- Disposes of drugs and narcotics as required, and in accordance with procedure.
