The Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) is a union dedicated to improving the workplace and the quality of life for all education employees and protecting their hard-won rights. The NSBC-MO, a Member Organizer for the North Shore Bargaining Campaign, will work over the late spring and summer of 2024 to support two (2) contract campaign-specific projects. These projects include a community and legislative forum to advance the campaign's goals. This will involve engaging with communities of interest outside of the union (parents, elected officials, community members). The work may continue beyond the summer based on the needs of the continued contract campaign.
This is an expanded summer organizer program. Successful candidates will work up to 10 hours per week through the conclusion a of the 23-24 school year and up to 20 hours per week for 6-8 weeks in July and August. MTA may offer a limited number of members organizers a lead role. Lead organizers may work additional hours and/or receive additional training.

PAY RATE
The compensation for this position is $35.00 per hour SMOs and $40.00 per hour for LMOs. There will be a daily stipend to cover mileage and data charges.
Responsibilities and duties of this job may include:

Work with the MTA field and organizing staff, and regional managers to implement the field plan across the North East Regional Office, hitting all goals in all metrics, including:

Canvassing (door knocking)

Phone banking
-
Tabling at farmers' markets and other community events

Organizing community and legislative events and forums

Talking to elected local and state officials
-
Help build communication structures within participating local unions

Meet daily or weekly reporting and data entry deadlines.

Participate in regular reporting meetings.

Member organizers are expected to take the skills they acquire as part of the summer program and apply those experiences to organizing and member enrollment work in their local unions.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Current MTA member who is not on the MTA Executive Committee or Board of Directors.

Prior organizing experience, Summer Member Organizer experience or participation on a North Shore Contract Action Team is preferred.
