We are a 3rd generation, well-established privately owned veterinary hospital. We practice high-quality, small animal medicine including surgery, internal medicine, chiropractic, dental and more. We are seeing an energetic and compassionate Senior Veterinary Technician with case management experience to join our team. The candidate should be well organized, a leader, able to preform all functions of a veterinary technician at a high level, experience with lab work, exam, pharmacy, surgery and more. Patients will primarily be small animals; cats, dogs, rabbits, and closely related animals. You will work together with clients, veterinarians, other veterinary technicians, and support staff. We are looking for a team player who will work in collaboration with colleagues to help bring the best experience and treatment for outpatients, using state of the art equipment and materials.
Senior Veterinary Technicians Responsibility:
- Case management, from incoming, assessment, plan to closing out the case.
- Assess, examine, and treat patients under supervision of Veterinarian.
- Obtain and record patient histories, vital signs and perform basic body condition score, dental score, temperature, respiration, and heartrate
- Perform in-house lab testing and prepare specimens for reference labs
- Dispense and administer medications, vaccines, serums, and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians.
- Administer fluids and products as prescribed by the veterinarian; use and maintain IV pump.
- Administer and monitor anesthesia under the direction of a veterinarian.
- Communicate with and educate owners in a compassionate, tactful, professional manner
- Take radiographs – processes rads, demonstrates proper positioning techniques, work with veterinarian to interpret results and help with proper treatments.
- Log controlled drugs
- Assist in the ordering of compounding inventory
- Create estimates/treatment plans
- Assist in diagnostic, medical, and surgical procedures
- Report diagnostic testing to veterinarians
- Maintain quality controls and record keeping on in-house lab equipment
- Complete proper sample preparation and paperwork for reference lab tests
- Fill prescriptions per veterinarians’ instructions; double-check for accuracy
- Maintain knowledge of preventative healthcare recommendations to answer client questions,
- Educate clients on products and medications sold including dietary products
- Perform client callbacks
- Work through daily triages with veterinarian
- Maintain online pharmacy
Senior Veterinary Technician Requirements:
- Certified or licensed preferred (though experience and reference will be considered)
- Strong affinity for animals
- Ability to make prudent decisions regarding welfare and well-being of animals
- Outstanding communication skills
- Excellent customer service
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Ability to work with small animals and resilient to noise
- Available to work extended hours, including some weekends
- Excellent leadership qualities
- Prior experience in case management preferred
- Able to read imaging and labs to assist veterinarian with treatments
