Description:
The role of the Lab Assistant I, is to perform pre-analytical processing of patient specimens under CLIA/CAP and other regulatory guidelines. The Lab Assistant I performs simple tasks under direct supervision.
Duties:
- Performs pre-analytical processing of patient specimens, including sorting, specimen label verification, and specimen distribution within the lab.
- Ensures specimens are properly identified, collected, labeled, and stored.
- Maintains cleanliness and order in the laboratory.
- Maintain laboratory records, including equipment and temperature logs.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, accreditation, professional and regulatory agency standards, including Quality Assessment/Assurance, safety, and licensure requirements within the department, and with policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Assists laboratory staff with testing, scheduling and other activities as needed.
- Coordinates the preparation of chemicals, reagents, and solutions, as appropriate to department.
- Adheres to analytical schedules to maintain turn-around times of results.
- Always follows company policies and procedures.
- All other duties for which the Laboratory Supervisor has made the Laboratory Assistant a designee.
Requirements:
· High School diploma or equivalent
· The employee frequently is required to walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms
· The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
· Strong communication interpersonal skills
· Strong attention to detail
