Seeking an experienced certified professional midwife to join our team of midwives at Austin Area Birthing Center!
Austin Area Birthing Center has provided personalized, compassionate midwifery care to thousands of parents over 35 years here in the Austin metro. We have two locations, and both are accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers. Our philosophy of care is that clients and their families should be active participants in their healthcare. With this in mind we have a strong focus on education and shared decision making throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We have been a CenteringPregnancy provider for 13 years, offer a variety of classes to our clients and the larger community, and partner with local organizations to promote a positive and supported transition to parenthood.
Responsibilities:
- Full-time schedule of clinic and call shifts, with an average of two clinic days and two 24-hour call shifts per week
- Provide comprehensive prenatal care to pregnant individuals, including physical examinations and prenatal screenings.
- Monitor the health and well-being of pregnant individuals and their babies throughout the pregnancy.
- Provide support and guidance during labor and delivery.
- Provide postpartum care to new mothers, including physical examinations, breastfeeding support, and emotional counseling.
- Provide care to well newborns up to 6 weeks of life.
- Educate pregnant individuals and their families about pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records
- Participation in monthly midwife meetings and case review
- Participation in at least 3 quarterly OB emergency drills per year
- Collaborat to revise clinical practice guidelines annually and more frequently as needed
- Precept midwifery students according to your experience level
Skills:
- Training and experience appropriate for full-scope midwifery practice
- Practice according to established clinical practice guidelines and community standards of care
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to develop quick rapport with clients, whether in the clinic or birth room
- Provide care rooted in shared decision making
- Comfort with waterbirth and support techniques for unmedicated birth
- Constructively address conflict with coworkers and clients
- Respond calmly and confidently in emergency situations
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Acute care skills to handle emergency situations during labor and delivery.
- Strong knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and reproductive health.
- Experience administering injections and IV insertion.
- Proficiency in triage and assessing vital signs.
- Familiarity with electronic medical record systems such as Epic or ICD-9 coding.
Requirements:
- 3 years midwifery experience preferred
- Graduate of a MEAC-accredited midwifery program OR NARM Bridge certificate
- Current NARM certification
- Current licensure as midwife in Texas
- BLS and NRP certification

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
