JOB TITLE: Treatment Nurse

REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing Services
PURPOSE OF JOB POSITION
The primary purpose of this job position is to provide primary skin care to residents under the medical direction and supervision of the residents' attending physicians, the Director of Nursing Services, or the Medical Director of the facility, with an emphasis on treatment and therapy of skin disorders. Treatment nurse will also assist in modifying the treatment regimen to meet the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident, in accordance with established medical practices and the requirements of this state and the policies and goals of this facility.
DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY
Treatment Nurse is delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out the assigned duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
§ Implement and maintain established policies and procedures related to skin care treatments.
§ Assist charge nurse in skin assessment or data collection related to skin condition of newly admitted residents to establish an accurate baseline information.
§ Receive, transcribe and implement new treatment orders in a timely manner.
§ Administer treatments as prescribed by the physician within standard nursing practice guidelines and in compliance with established infection prevention and control protocols.
§ Ensure that residents with pressure injuries receive appropriate prophylaxis and treatment such as daily skin inspection, turning and activity, well-planned diet, appropriate mattress, etc.
§ Coordinate with the Interdisciplinary Team in developing a comprehensive assessment and patient centered care plan.
§ Monitor the progress of wound healing and make recommendations for changes as appropriate.
§ Perform and record pressure ulcer assessment and measurement in accordance with facility policies and procedures and standard nursing practice.
§ Make rounds with wound consultant to assess resident skin condition. Document findings and make recommendations for new or revised treatment orders as necessary.
§ Provide education to resident and representative or family members of prevention techniques and other ways to maintain or improve skin condition and general health of the resident.
§ Train resident and/or caregiver in skin care and treatment in preparation for resident discharge.
§ Assist Director of Nursing Services or designee in tracking and trending worsened skin condition or facility acquired pressure injuries for quality assurance and performance improvement purposes.
§ Assist in monitoring the inventory of medications, medical supplies, and equipment to ensure an adequate supply of skin care products are on hand to meet the needs of residents.
§ Attend and participate in continuing education programs designed to keep abreast of changes in profession and to maintain license on a current status.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
§ Must be a graduate of an accredited college or university.
§ Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse/ Licensed Practical Nurse in this state.
§ Must possess a current Basic Life Support [BLS] certificate.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Physical and sensory requirements of this position, with or without the aid of mechanical devices include: Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, fine-hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to communicate with residents, ability to distinguish smells and temperatures, ability to read and write, and the ability to remain calm under emergency situations while dealing with multiple tasks.
EXPERIENCE
No experience is necessary. New graduates from accredited nursing college or university with current valid LVN/LPN license is acceptable. On-the-job training is provided.
