SUMMARY
North American Rescue is seeking a dedicated and skilled IT Security Specialist to join our IT team. In this role, you will be responsible for assessing and improving the security and IT controls within our organization to meet our business objectives and compliance frameworks. Your expertise in evaluating and recommending security practices, developing policies, and performing compliance assessments will be crucial to ensuring the safety and integrity of our data and technology systems.
As an IT Security Specialist, you will work on various security and IT-related tasks, from assessing risks to performing daily IT support functions. You will play an active role in creating a secure environment by developing security policies, monitoring compliance, and suggesting improvements for our security program. You will also support the IT department with tasks like password resets, VPN troubleshooting, and other basic IT functions.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES This is not an all inclusive list of duties and responsibilities. Projects/duties may be modified/changed/added/deleted as needed.
- Assess and evaluate the adequacy of security and IT controls, providing recommendations to meet compliance frameworks and best practices.
- Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and processes based on audit findings and compliance requirements.
- Advise on security standards and suggest controls to improve operational effectiveness.
- Perform risk and compliance assessments to create a robust security baseline.
- Track and monitor non-compliance issues, ensuring timely remediation.
- Conduct data analysis to address security-related problems and propose effective solutions.
- Support daily IT tasks, including password resets, VPN troubleshooting, and basic system maintenance.
ACCOUNTABILITY
- Develop and maintain excellent documentation of network and computer set-up, troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Review, recommend and implement best practice solutions, procedures and protocols for network and individual computer maintenance.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Information Technology preferred

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear, actionable concepts.
- Familiarity with fundamental security/IT concepts (e.g., data classification, asset management, third-party risk).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, showing good judgment in decision-making.
- Technical aptitude and quick learning capabilities to adapt to new technologies.
- High attention to detail, quality-oriented, and a positive attitude towards teamwork.
- Reliability, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality.
DEMANDS
Time and availability
- Must be able to work a minimum of 40 hours each week from 8am-5pm, or some variation thereof
Travel
- Must have transportation to and from headquarters
Physical
- This job requires the employee to use hands for keyboard usage and is frequently required to sit, stand and walk. The employee must occasionally reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and lift and/or move up to 100 pounds when moving and changing computer equipment.

- Must be able to work in a moderately loud work environment
