The Iron Worker/Break Operator performs duties necessary to cut and bend material according to job specifications using iron worker and press break equipment. In addition to preparing orders according to job specifications, an Iron Worker/Break Operator is also responsible for the proper set-up, communication with team and monitoring equipment.
- Loads equipment with raw material using a forklift and manual lifting to prepare the equipment for an accurate cut or bend.
- Fabricate parts based on drawings, designs, or samples, recommending design changes and improvements when necessary.
- Measures material before/after cutting to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
- Performs preventive maintenance as needed.
- Study specifications, visualize products, compute dimensions, and plan layout and assembly operations.
- Coordinate efforts with team members to meet proposed timelines.
- Finalize machining processes and approve for short and long-run production.
- Completes assigned duties in accordance with safety policies and practices. This regards to individual safety, the safety of other employees, and the safe use of equipment in the workplace.
- Wears approved personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, etc.
- Perform various work activities, including pulling, lifting, twisting, and working in confined spaces or on elevated platforms.
- Performs other duties as assigned by a supervisor, lead person or management.
- Use shop mathematics, including decimals, complex fractions, and simple algebra to lay out parts according to blueprints within required tolerances.
- Ability to read and understand measuring tools and equipment such as a tape measure, calipers and micrometer.
- Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts.
- Ability to perform math including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions as well as convert fractions to decimals or vice versa.
- Ability to understand and read blueprints
- Knowledge of general shop procedures and rules including safety precautions.
- Ability and willingness to cooperate with co-workers and work as part of a production team.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge

A minimum of one (1) year previous operator work experience is preferred.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, as well as lift and move heavier objects with the assistance of cranes, forklifts, or another employee.
Preferred candidate has experience with or the ability to be trained to operate bandsaws, Plasma Tables, Press Brakes, and Iron Workers.
Shift hours 6:00am-4:30pm Mon-Fri.
