Basic Function:
Maintain site Process Instrumentation, Safety Instrumented Systems, Environmental Protective Systems, Personnel Protective Systems and Equipment Protective Systems. This person has the responsibility to troubleshoot problems in these systems, repair instrumentation as required, to maintain safety and plant operations.
The Senior Instrument Technician reports to the IE Zone Supervisors. This person must interface with other departments in the plant, especially Production/Process and Maintenance Engineering. The technician must have an understanding of the chemicals and process of the unit and be able to coordinate troubleshooting and repair equipment in operating units with Production and Process Engineering. This person must develop a working relationship with Maintenance Engineering to assist in troubleshooting rotating and fixed equipment problems. The Technician must also work with Project Engineering to install and commission new instrumentation as required.
Know How:

Thorough knowledge of Industrial Instrumentation and Basic Electricity fundamentals.

Excellent troubleshooting skills in Industrial Instrumentation and Instrumented systems.

Excellent troubleshooting skills in Electrical Schematic / Control Diagrams.

Thorough understanding of Programmable logic and ladder logic drawings.

Ability to calibrate, configure and commission site Instrumentation and Instrumented Systems..

Thorough knowledge of Site Safety and Instrument Department policies and procedures.

Thorough understanding of SAP and Lotus Notes Systems.

Communication skills to interact in high stress situations to resolve problems as soon as possible.

Thorough understanding of all Instrument and Electrical Test Equipment.

Ability to update Instrument, electrical and P&ID drawings and specification sheets.
Problem Solving:
The Senior Instrument Technician must have excellent problem solving abilities and must be able to apply these skills in high stress situations. This person must be knowledgeable in all site instrumentation systems which include pneumatic, electronic, and computer controlled equipment. This person must be able to work alone to solve problems and communicate expected resolution times to Production personnel.

Maintenance of assigned unit Instrumentation through SAP work order system and DAS sheets.

Communicate unit emergencies to the IE Zone Supervisor for prioritization.

Maintain a high standard on housekeeping in the Instrument shop and assigned production unit.

Communicate unusual plant incidents to supervision and plant management as soon as possible.

Completion of bi-annual required CBT refresher training.
