Position Description
We are seeking an independent and detail-oriented Assistant Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Officer to join our team. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of USD faculty, staff, and students.
The primary responsibility of this position involves overseeing laboratory audits to identify occupational hazards and implementing controls to reduce or eliminate risks. You will also play a key role in managing the safe storage, processing, and disposal of hazardous waste generated by university laboratories and other departments. Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and safety guidelines will be a significant part of your duties.
In addition to these responsibilities, you will develop and conduct safety training programs tailored to departmental needs, educating laboratory occupants on safety practices and protocols. Addressing and responding to safety concerns raised by laboratory occupants will also be essential, providing guidance and solutions to enhance laboratory safety.
Furthermore, you will assist the EHS Director in developing, managing, and executing the Chemical Hygiene Plan, ensuring it is up-to-date and effectively implemented across the university.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience in a related field
Ability to understand, interpret, and apply OSHA standards
Preferred Qualifications:
Chemistry , Industrial Hygiene, or Environmental Engineering degree
Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) certification
