Title: Food Hub Operations Associate
Location: Fresh Start Food Hub, 150 Spruce Street,Manchester, NH
Terms: Part-time, May through December 2024, 24+ hours per week, daytime hours with potential to transition to full time
Compensation: Compensation will be commensurate with applicant’s skills and experience, from $18-20/hour
About ORIS: The Organization for Refugee & Immigrant Success (ORIS) is a non-profit community-based organization with a mission to aid in the resettlement of refugees and immigrants by providing assistance, training, resources, and opportunities that promote self-sufficiency. ORIS programs support new Americans to hone their strengths and transform barriers as they integrate into and become leaders within their communities. ORIS programming includes the New American Sustainable Agriculture Program (NASAP) farmer training and business development, food access initiatives, Healthy Families victim advocacy and case management, youth development, and workforce development.
About Fresh Start Farms: Fresh Start Farms is a collective brand for farmers participating in the New American Sustainable Agriculture Program. The Fresh Start Food Hub opened in 2020 and organizes and actively manages the aggregation, distribution, and marketing of produce from Fresh Start Farmers and other local producers. The food from the Fresh Start Food Hub is distributed through a CSA FarmShare, a mobile market, wholesale accounts, a retail market, and other food access projects.
Job Overview: The Operations Associate will play an essential role in implementing Fresh Start Food Hub programming focused on food procurement and distribution. This multifaceted role will include receiving and packaging produce, packing orders, delivering product to customers, operating the Fresh Start Market, and supporting inventory management. Key Responsibilities:
- Receive produce, ensuring that it meets Fresh Start Farms’ quality standards. Complete tasks as needed such as washing, weighing, bagging/bunching, and packaging produce
- Pack produce into boxes according to daily and weekly orders
- Utilize inventory, POS, and CSA subscription software platforms to efficiently manage inventory, vendor orders and invoice information
- Maintain food safety protocols in accordance with federal and state and local regulations
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment at the Hub
- Provide personable and proactive service to all customers, community partners, and other stakeholders
- Assist with other Fresh Start Farms duties and special projects as assigned
Qualifications:
Required
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds and ability to load and unload trucks quickly and efficiently
- Comfort and ease with learning technology platforms, specifically Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Gmail
- Strong time management and customer service skills
- High level of attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
- Flexibility and willingness to find creative solutions
- Demonstrates ability to engage with diverse communities and partners in a sensitive and competent manner
- Ability to both collaborate with team members and be self-motivated
Preferred
- Work experience in a relevant field including agriculture, food service, driving/delivery, warehousing, and customer service
- Food safety certification such as Always Food Safe, AA Food Handler, or 360 Training or willingness to gain
- Proficiency in another language will be considered an asset (Kinyarwanda, Kirundi, Maay Maay, Nepali, Spanish, Swahili etc.). Multilingual candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
- Candidates with first-hand or lived experience in new American communities are especially encouraged to apply.
- A demonstrated interest in food systems, sustainable agriculture, community development, and/or issues impacting new American communities
