The Prevention Educator is responsible for implementing social and emotional well-being, substance use, and violence prevention evidence-based curriculums in school districts within Putnam County.
Responsibilities:
1. Implements evidence-based alcohol and drug education and prevention curriculum to students, school personnel and parents in assigned school districts; this occasionally may include evening and weekend assignments.
2. Meets 100% of all established KPIs as it pertains to measurable outcomes, engagement, and feedback from students, school personnel, and parents. Including maintaining a positive relationship with school and community personnel.
3. Assures that 100% of all documentation/statistics are completed in an accurate and timely manner and in accordance with the OASAS prevention guidelines.
4. Attends 100% of required trainings, workshops, conferences, and staff development seminars on current practices as assigned to support continuing education in the appropriate field; implements what has been learned within specified time frames.
5. Attends and participates in the Putnam County Communities that Care Coalition’s meetings, Youth Bureau/Youth Court meetings, SIDNE events, Health tabling events, and Camp Herrlich summer program as assigned.
6. Plans and collaborates in community campaigns including Red Ribbon Week, Prevention Week, Problem Gambling, and Table Talk Tuesday events.
7. Undertakes duties as assigned.
General responsibilities:
- Attends workshops, conferences and staff development training on current practices as assigned or agreed upon by supervisor to acquire continuing education in the appropriate field and implements what has been learned.
- Maintains cooperative relationships with all referents and community resources.
- Undertakes related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. *QHP with 2 years of related work experience.
*QHP includes: CASAC, CPGC; CPHA (Certified Public Health Administrator), NY State Education Licensed or Certified Teacher, Health Educator, Guidance Counselor, Rehabilitation Counselor, Social Worker, Licensed Mental Health Practitioner, Registered Nurse, Physician, National Board-Certified Counselor or Certified Health Education Specialist.
Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred. Qualified Health Professional (QHP) with two years’ related work experience.
Experience: 2 years of related work experience
