JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Assistant Director of Nursing
DEPARTMENT: Nursing Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing
GENERAL PURPOSE: Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to- day functions of Nursing Department in accordance with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines that govern our facility and as may be directed by the Administrator, Medical Director, and Director of Nursing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: In addition to performing Essential Functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions based upon the requirements of the organization: -
1. Assist the Director of Nursing/Administrator in developing, maintaining, and updating our written policies and procedures that governs day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department.
2. Create written and oral reports/recommendations to Director of Nursing/Administrator as required, concerning the operation of the Nursing Department.
3. Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility’s quality assurance program for the Nursing Department.
4. Participate in Facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as requested by the Administrator or Director of Nursing.
5. Participate in developing, implementing, and periodically updating the resident’s written discharge plan.
6. Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, charting, etc., as necessary.
7. Assist in determining the staffing needs of the Nursing Department.
8. Participate in the development and implementation of performance evaluations for the Nursing
Department.
9. Make daily rounds of the Nursing Department to ensure that all nursing personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Report findings to the Director of
Nursing/Administrator.
10. Monitor medication passes and treatment schedules to ensure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled.
11. Attend and participate in continuing education programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession, as well as to maintain your license on a status.
12. Assist the Resident Assessment/Care Plan Coordinator in planning, scheduling, and revising the MDS
(Minimum Data Set).
13. May require working on the floor when staffing is needed.
14. All staff are required to always follow all safety regulations and precautions.
15. Staff must ensure that their department is maintained in a clean and safe manner by assuring that all necessary equipment and supplies are maintained.
16. Report all hazardous conditions/equipment to immediate supervisor/manager
17. Report all accidents/incidents to immediate supervisor/manager within 24hrs
18. All staff must wear protective clothing and equipment when handling infectious waste and or blood/body fluids or when doing Hazardous work i.e., working with chemicals, electrical or day to day maintenance repairs.
19. All Staff are required to participate in the Person-Centered Care - Managers/Supervisors will help staff in assisting in participating in Person Centered Care.
20. Receive direction from the Nursing Home Administrator on overall QAPI objectives for the organization.
21. Be knowledgeable in data collection, data analysis methodology, and performance improvement methods needed to support and lead performance improvement projects.
22. Identify opportunities for improvement through analysis of data, observation of operations, and consultation with leadership and staff.
23. Collaborate with the quality committee and senior leaders to prioritize and develop QAPI efforts.
24. Lead performance improvement projects and provide education and coaching in order to build needed skills in others to lead PIPs.
25. Participate in multidisciplinary QAPI activities.
26. Perform Audits as required by Director of Nursing
27. Assist with admission and auditing of documentation post admission
28. Update 672 & 802 weekly
29. Attend all assigned meeting and training sessions
30. Develop strategies and monitor staff, ensuring they are in compliance with their annual educational requirements.
31. All other duties assigned.
OTHER: Regular attendance in conformance with standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment due to the cyclical nature of the health care industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the facility. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with all applicable rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of the facility. Employees who violate the rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS/BASIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: A Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Three (3) years' experience in a Long-Term Care Facility or related health care facility. Six (6) months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses or Certificates: Registered Nurse License in the State of Arizona or eligible.
Grooming: All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance. See specific Archie Hendricks Sr.
