Wyomissing Surgical Services is hiring experienced Perioperative Nurses at our Ambulatory Surgery Center. The ideal candidate will possess previous knowledge in perioperative nursing, preferably in a surgery center. Additionally, excellent communication and customer service skills are a must!
RESPONSIBLE AND ACCOUNTABLE FOR:
· Rendering of professional nursing care to patients in the clinical area
· Exhibiting compassionate, professional and courteous behavior to patients, their families, physicians and fellow employees
· Being a flexible, cooperative and supportive member of WSS
· Acting as a liaison between the physician and the patient, assuming the role of patient advocate
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Education: must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
· Licensing: must possess a valid RN/LPN license
· Current BLS certification
· Current ACLS certification
Must have operating room experience
DUTIES AND TASKS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
· Ensures the comfort and safety of each patient.
· Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care based on the age, physical, psychosocial, and educational status of each patient.
· Individualizes care according to each patients’ special needs, providing information and instruction as necessary.
· Follows safety and infection control practices.
· Implements and adheres to all policies.
· Has working knowledge of all medical equipment and pain management procedures.
· Understands the use, placement and interpretation of all monitoring equipment.
· Protects patient confidentiality by using privacy curtains and doors as appropriate.
· Takes responsibility for a clean and sanitary work environment.
· Restocks clinical areas with drugs, supplies, equipment and accessories.
· Identifies patient, reviews medical record for consent, H&P, allergies, and medication list to ensure a complete and accurate medical record pre-procedure.
· Accurately performs and documents pre-procedure nursing assessment.
· Obtains and maintains patent IV access on all required cases.
· Performs and documents diagnostic tests as ordered by physician.
· Performs and documents quality control testing of diagnostic tests as required.
· Continuously assesses and accurately documents patient’s condition through pre, intra and post-op.
· Communicates relevant information to the physician, the director of nursing and clinical staff to maintain continuity of care.
· Administers medications as ordered by physician.
· Is familiar with the dosage, route of administration, action, adverse reaction and reversal medications of all drugs commonly used during procedures.
· Demonstrates knowledge of sterile technique
· Identifies an emergency situation and intervenes effectively.
· Knows physician preferences and prepares accordingly.
· Properly disinfects and sterilizes all medical equipment.
· Properly disposes of all contaminated waste following OSHA regulations
· Explains discharge instructions to patient or responsible party post procedure.
· Counts narcotics each A.M. and P.M. with another clinical staff member.
· Maintains accurate documentation of narcotics dispensed.
· Performs pre/post procedure phone calls.
· Responsible for accurate documentation and maintenance of EMR
· Assists with orientation of new personnel.
RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS:
· Maintains respectful, cooperative working relationship with physicians and staff.
· Promotes a high degree of morale and positive attitude.
· Demonstrates ability to tactfully handle difficult situations.
