Job Overview:
The DOT Compliance Director plays a pivotal role in ensuring the company's operational fleet drivers and vehicles adhere to company policies, State, and Federal regulations. The Directors expertise in driver qualification requirements, Hours of Service (HOS), and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations are essential in overseeing driver training, maintaining compliance records, and analyzing safety data to enhance operational efficiency. This role oversees both east and west coast.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all aspects of DOT compliance, including driver qualification, drug & alcohol programs, inspections, and audits.
- Develop and implement comprehensive fleet safety programs to ensure adherence to FMCSA regulations and industry best practices.
- Conduct accident triage, investigation, prevention, and root cause analysis to minimize risk and improve safety outcomes.
- Administer the DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Analyze data from various programs such as FMCSA, Lytx, Tenstreet, and Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) to identify trends and provide recommendations for improving safety and regulatory procedures.
- Provide training and guidance to operational management and drivers on compliance requirements and best practices.
- Regularly visit fleet sites to supervise inspections, conduct safety training sessions, and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Minimum of 7 years of multi-site transportation safety and compliance leadership experience, preferably overseeing a fleet of over 200 trucks.
- Expertise in DOT compliance, driver qualification, and FMCSA regulations.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret safety data and identify areas for improvement.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and coach employees at all levels.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest levels of integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
Physical Demands:
- Extended Sitting: Primarily desk-based with prolonged computer use.
- Light Lifting: Occasional handling of objects up to 20 pounds.
- Computer Use: Frequent operation of computers and office equipment, requiring manual dexterity.
- Eye Strain and Repetitive Motion: Risk from continuous screen use and repetitive tasks like typing.
- Office Navigation: Light walking and standing for meetings and tasks within the office.
