Position Title: Assistant Professor of American Sign Language Interpreting

The School of Education at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD, invites applicants for a full-time faculty position in Sign Language Interpreting and ASL beginning August 2024. The Sign Language Interpreting Program at Augustana is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE). Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities: Teaching responsibilities include face to face undergraduate courses in Sign Language Interpreting and ASL. Responsibilities also include recruiting and advising students; providing service to the University and profession; developing ongoing collaborations with schools, agencies and the community; and engaging in professional development.
Qualifications: Earned Master’s degree in Sign Language Interpreting, or a related area; must be a certified interpreter (BEI, RID or CASLI) or be willing to earn certification, active in the interpreting profession which may include research, involvement with interpreting organizations, and/or interpreting; and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Preferred qualifications: previous teaching experience, and experience in training or supervising interpreters.
Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.
