Nurse Educator Opportunity
Full time, 40 hours
We are looking for a motivated, hardworking individual to come and join our growing team as a nurse educator in western Massachusetts. The psychiatric nurse educator provides staff development expertise as an educator for staff caring for patients with psychiatric and substance abuse issues. The nurse educator facilitates the educational process through assessment, development, planning, implementation and evaluation of competency assessments, continuing education, and leadership development. The nurse educator is responsible for facilitating hospital orientation, clinical competencies, and clinical supervision.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborates with the nurse director to identify staff learning needs and modes of instruction.
- Serves as a role model for education and professional nursing practice.
- Leads committees, work groups and/or projects related to the implementation of educational activities.
- Role models and teaches trauma-informed care principles; coaches staff to promote a culture of restraint prevention.
- Oversees the clinical process and staff professional practice to ensure quality patient care delivery, patient outcomes and satisfaction, regulatory readiness, and performance improvement.
- Has knowledge of patients’ legal rights and is aware of human rights issues.
- If designated, serves as the Human Rights Officer for the unit.
- Acts as a knowledgeable resource for patients, families, and staff regarding regulatory and human rights, effectively investigates complaints, and ensures follow-through with the unit director. Attends annual DMH human rights officer training.
- Ensures staff education and competencies for all staff, including those who work evening, night, and weekend shifts.
- Works a flexible schedule to meet educating staff on varying shifts as required.
- Develops evidence-based educational materials.
- Teaches content as needed and/or assigned within clinical expertise.
- Coordinates the orientation of new staff to the organization.
- Develops/coordinates education plans related to initial and ongoing competency validation.
- Develops/coordinates core education to address patients with psychiatric and substance abuse diagnosis orientation, staff development and/or safe practice.
- Maintains educational files to meet the DMH, TJC and CMS standards.
Qualifications:
- A BSN is required. MSN, APRN preferred.
- Experience assessing learning needs, developing curriculum, and evaluating the practice of registered nurses and other staff within the department of nursing.
- Massachusetts Licensed Registered Nurse
- Advanced knowledge of nursing practice in the Behavior Health inpatient setting.
- Demonstrated leadership and educator experience either in a clinical or academic setting.
