Job description- Assistant Maintenance Mechanic

Purpose and Scope:
The assistant maintenance mechanic is responsible for fixing and maintaining mechanical equipment, and machines. Daily tasks include light plumbing work, machine repair and upkeep, electrical repairs, and machine system maintenance. The Assistant Maintenance Manager works in collaboration with other departments on projects and special assignments. To thrive in this role, you should have previous experience in maintenance, be highly skilled with various hand and power tools, and be able to read blueprints and repair manuals. There are interactions with a cross-section of internal (Sales, Management/Operations) and external (customers, suppliers, and service providers).
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Work with the maintenance and facilities team and under the supervision of the maintenance manager.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance checks on all production equipment and machinery.
- Replaces or repairs parts on machines such as bearings, filters, wiring, valves, gauges, and switches.
- Replaces electrical parts and equipment.
- Observes and listens to mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble.
- Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
- Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
- Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments. Repairs or replaces defective parts. Install special functional and structural parts in devices.
- Lubricates and cleans parts.
- Start devices to test their performance.
- Assist in the Supervision, guidance, and engagement of Maintenance employees.
- Train and lead others to perform preventive maintenance functions maintaining standards and minimize the services of outside contractors.
- Assist and support, develop and implement plans to keep equipment, and grounds in an excellent state of repair and working order.
- Assist and provide input on the assignment and tracking of tasks.
- Ensure an adequate supply of products is on hand for daily requirements and emergency maintenance situations. Use database to place and track orders.
- Adhere to Health and Safety regulations, fire prevention programs and train employees as required.
- Maintain accurate records regarding routine inspections of all mechanical equipment, safe handling procedures of chemicals, and daily work/project logs.
- Oversee the maintenance/repair of HVAC equipment.
- Provide on-the-job staff training.
- Generate communication with staff, suppliers, clients, clients, and tenants regarding construction/maintenance work.
- Initiates purchase order for parts and machines.
- Required to participate in on-call program and may be required to work additional hours as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with other mechanics and facilities personnel.
- Follows all safety rules and procedures and observes the operations to insure a safe environment.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus, 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Full and complete understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electricity.
- Any licenses trade certificates such as Gas, HVAC, Plumbing, and/or Electrical are assets.
- Knowledge of building maintenance, fire protection system, plumbing, heating, electrical, generators, painting, and general repairs.
- Time management and planning skills. Strong problem solving/troubleshooting skills with the understanding of cost and time.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Computer skills, Excel, Word, and Outlook (e-mail and calendar).
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Machine set- up, troubleshoots equipment failures, and performs repair and prevent maintenance services ensuring that all safety procedures are being followed.
- Must have good working knowledge of all aspects of electrical controls, mechanical assembly, plumbing, and heating, ventilating and air conditioning related control systems.
- Read and interpret electrical control and mechanical assembly drawings, as well as service manuals for all equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair both Electrical and Mechanical problems associated with Production and Facility equipment in a timely manner.
- Must be able to work to repair equipment back to service during emergency breakdowns.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.

Salary: $30- 35 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week.
