Paralegal for Personal Injury Law Firm - legal/paralegal - job employment Caruso Law Offices, an Albuquerque personal injury and wrongful death law firm, is expanding and looking to immediately hire a full time paralegal/legal assistant. Law firm has been established in Albuquerque for 35 years and is 4.7 star Google rated by its clients.
- Must have PRIOR PARALEGAL/LEGAL ASSISTANT EXPERIENCE.
- Please don't apply if you have no prior paralegal/legal assistant experience.
Paralegal position is forty hours per week, Mon to Fri, 8:30am to 5:00pm.
Law firm is located near Montgomery and Carlisle in Albuquerque.
Position requires good typing, phone and organizational skills, people skills a must.
Experience in personal injury and wrongful death litigation is helpful but not required. Good work atmosphere, beautiful office, easy parking.
Successful candidate will have experience with the following Pre-Litigation and Litigation duties.
(All duties are under the supervision and instruction of attorneys at Caruso Law Offices.)
Job duties will include:
PRE-LITIGATION DUTIES:
Summarize police reports
Interviewing witnesses
Managing client files in case management system
Reporting claim to responsible insurance companies
Sending letter of representation to responsible insurance companies
Sending letters of protection to health care providers
Ordering of all medical records and bills from health care providers using medical authorization signed by client
Preparing medical index and keeping it updated on a regular monthly basis
Manage tickle system of securing medical records and bills with follow up if not received from health care provider within specific time periods
Notifications of representation to client's health insurance company, Medicare or Medicaid carrier of representation and request for subrogation
Work with attorney in requesting reduction in subrogation from health insurance company, Medicare and Medicaid
Request final balances from health care providers lienholders with letters of protection
Work with attorney in requesting reduction in lien amount from health care providers
Minimum monthly contact with clients regarding status of case, update client on status of medical index and list of health care providers seen to date; respond to client request for updates
Calendar client appointments with attorneys
Regular contact with claims adjuster regarding status of case
Preparation of settlement demand outline for review by attorney, using format adopted by law firm
LITIGATION DUTIES:
Drafting summons and complaints to conform with facts of crash for review, editing, and approval by attorney
Filing of summons and complaint
All filing in Odyssey (state court) and Pacer (federal court)
Modifying form interrogatories, requests for production and requests for admission for service on insurance company and defendant.
Meeting with clients, following up with clients and formally responding to defendants' interrogatories, request for production and requests for admission
Filing of certificate of service for discovery responded to and sent to defendants
Contacts with opposing counsel and legal secretary/paralegal regarding scheduling of depositions, hearings, arbitration, trials and mediation
Preparation of notice and service of subpoena for depositions of witnesses, health care providers, etc.
Notice to client of depositions, arbitrations, trials, mediations and meetings with attorney
Managing and organizing medical records, employment records and other documents sent to law firm by opposing counsel
Preparing of mediation notebook, arbitration notebook and/or trial notebook in format adopted by law firm.
Regular contact with clients and attorneys regarding status of litigation
