Job Overview
To provide clinical and administrative support to the Practitioners based on the Standard of the Practice and the organization’s policies and procedures. Facilitate patient care needs and the flow of patients in and out of the Health Center. This job function is carried out in support of the Nursing Department’s Mission and Vision statements.
Duties
- Obtain and document chief complaint(s), vital signs, height, weight, current family/social history, medications and allergies in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Communicates all abnormal observations and findings to the Registered Nurse (RN)/Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and/or Provider in a timely and efficient manner.
- Reinforce patient education and discharge instructions.
- Perform tasks including, but not limited to, EKGs, Holter Monitor Application, Hearing and Vision screenings.
- Perform all Point of Care testing according to organization policies and procedures.
- Responsible for providing patients with appropriate verbal and/or written instructions regarding specimen collection.
- Maintain clinical equipment and environmental safety per Health Center policy.
- Assist Providers with patient examinations, procedures, and diagnostic treatment.
- Under of the supervision of the RN/LPN, review Recalls on the Dynamic Work List (DWL) for appropriate follow- up daily.
- Under the supervision of the RN/LPN, review and appropriately address pool messages in the EMR daily.
- Responsible for preparing and maintaining exam rooms in state of readiness.
- Assist in maintaining supply inventory as needed.
- Responsible for cleaning, disinfecting and packaging instruments for sterilization.
- Communicate with other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team to provide continuity of care.
- Perform duties in accordance with Department of Health (DOH) guidelines and practice accepted infection control measures in accordance with OSHA blood borne pathogens standards and the organization policies and procedures.
- Maintains HIPAA policies and procedures.
- Participate in Quality Assurance/Patient Safety/Risk Management activities.
- Attend meetings and in-services as required.
- Represents self and the organization in a professional and ethical manner.
- Responsible for reporting problems and/or unusual occurrences to supervisor.
- Participate in orientation process of clinical staff
- Responsible for maintaining current BLS certificate.
- Other duties/projects as assigned.
Minimum Experience and Skills Required
- Two years of experience in ambulatory care setting, Emergency Room, and/or Physician office.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to perform efficiently and effectively in a high-pressure environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Working experience with electronic medical records software.
Education, Licenses, and/or Certifications
- High School Diploma
- Graduation from an accredited School of Medical Assistant Certificate program
- Current Medical Assistant Certification
- Phlebotomy Certification (preferred)
- Current BLS Certification
- Certified Electrocardiogram Certification
