The Senior Counsel position is responsible for the evaluation and handling of class action litigation matters. The Senior Counsel job also requires a deep understanding of automotive and other product engineering, including knowledge of the processes for design, development, and testing. The responsibilities for the job require interaction with AHM senior management; senior management relies on the associate for thoughtful and well-reasoned recommendations regarding the strategy, settlement, and handling of these class action matters. These litigation matters can carry a risk of more than $10M dollars.
- Litigation: Evaluate and manage class actions for applicable Honda entity, develop defense strategy and provide the business with regular updates and advice, and manage outside counsel and expert fees, to reach the best long-term solution for Honda in moderate to more complex high-risk class actions.
- Legal advice and services: Provide high quality legal services and advice in a timely and cost-effective manner, and execute legal activities, to enable the applicable Honda business units to meet legal obligations and reduce risk for moderate to more complex legal matters.
- Knowledge management: Follow changes in all relevant federal and state laws and regulations, and exchange and share legal knowledge within the applicable Honda entity/unit/division/department, as well as train Honda associates in legal best practices, to improve the awareness, quality, and effectiveness of the legal function.
- Projects: Participate in the planning and execution of assigned AHM Law projects with a regional focus.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
- Juris Doctorate Degree from an Accredited Law School
- Admittance to the California Bar
- At least 8 years of experience as an attorney handling class actions.
- Must have good knowledge of the law area they support.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, problem solving, customer satisfaction, building relationship, coaching, decision-making, risk analysis, flexibility/adaptability, patience, listening, risk taking, focusing on achieving results and supporting others achieve results, legal technical knowledge, Honda business knowledge.
