Product Engineer
Nora Lighting, a leading manufacturer of indoor commercial and residential luminaires, is looking for a self-motivated individual to join our Engineering team! The right candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills and a positive and upbeat attitude!
Providing mechanical design, technical analysis; field visit and resolution of engineering problems. Plans and directs all aspects of engineering activities within an organization. Ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with organization's established policies and objectives. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and prefers 3+ years of experience in the lighting industry. Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Typically reports to top management.
Essential Functions: Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· Lead design from concept through production including component selection, simulation test, prototype build, safety approvals, production integration and technical troubleshooting.
· Identify, initiate and implement solutions for process/product development that improves performance, reduces cost, strengthens yield and increases capability.
· Read and write electrical wiring diagrams
· Design 2D and 3D sketches, and create BOM through Solidworks
· Build test prototype in 3D printing and metal fabrication
· Requires hands on skills to build test apparatus in plastic, metal, and wood.
· Solve problems through mechanical and thermal analysis
· Interface with local or oversea supplier and vendor on projects.
· Familiar with Underwriting Laboratory, Energy Star, DLC and Title 24 requirements
· Knowledgeable about operating a Goniophotometer and Integrating Sphere. (Preferred)
· Capable to travel for field inspection.
Requirements and Qualifications are but not limited to:
· Minimum 3+ year experience (Required)
· Must be organized and be able to follow up and handle multiple project at one time
· Must be dependable with a strong work ethic
· Ability to comprehend technical specifications
· Strong ability to multi task with testing, designing and reporting
· Ability to handle customer, vendor, representatives and in house complaints professionally and with urgency
· Strong attention to detail
· Strong ability to respond to calls and emails in a timely manner
· Ability to build a positive rapport with fellow employees, customers, vendors and Reps.
· Ability to work as a team as well as independently
· Must be able to work and look at a computer monitor for extended periods of time
· Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
Working Conditions: Office and technical lab condition, subject to traveling from different areas in the warehouse, work remote as needed.
Equipment Use: Microsoft PC, multi-meter, caliper, portable AC/DC power supply, oscilloscope, light meter, flickering machine, power analyzer, soldering iron, temperature monitoring equipment. Work with hand and power tools when checking evaluating new and existing Nora Lighting products.
Physical Condition: It is common for the position to work and evaluate electrical systems, products, components and applications.
Familiar with Solidworks 3D modeling software is required. Familiar with UL 1598 Luminaries standard testing procedure is a plus.
