Summary: The Mandrel Assembler is responsible for rebuilding/refurbishing steel mill equipment. This position reports to the Assembly Supervisor. The primary responsibilities are as follows,
Primary Duties/Responsibilities
· Assemble Steel Mill equipment according to procedures & drawing specifications by reading drawings and following standardized work instructions
· Assemble various configurations of components to corresponding assembly prints utilizing available tooling, gauging and equipment
· Detail, deburr, polish metal surfaces in preparation for assembly along with hand drilling and hand tapping to final depth or intersections
· Install various components as required, including bearings, seals, housings, flanges, bolted components, tubing, gauges, single and compound assemblies
· Use various hand tools, bearing heaters, safe and proper application of liquid nitrogen, bearing pullers, tube bender, grinders, including manual and pneumatic powered torque wrenches and various other tooling, as required
· Prepare units for shipment per established work instructions and checklists
· Prepare safe and proper rigging techniques for the overhead crane movement of heavy and awkward components.
· Stack bearings and check bench end play
· Thread and assemble threaded pipe
· Knowledge of bending and running stainless steel tubing
· Familiarity with Hydrostatic testing process
· Familiarity with Pneumatic testing process
· Maintain safe working conditions in the department & comply with all safety requirements
· Employee must provide their own set of basic hand tools including but not limited to: screwdrivers, pry bars, wrench sets, tape measure, deburring tools/files/air grinders, etc.
Preferred Knowledge, Skill and Ability Requirements:
· High School Diploma
· 5-7 years of experience in manufacturing environment, preferably in Assembly
· Advanced knowledge of heavy equipment assembly/production/manufacturing processes
· Ability to read and interpret documents for content and accuracy
· Ability to understand, interpret and work from schematics and blueprints and other instructions
· Strong mathematical skills
· Ability to accurately read tape measure, micrometer and other measurement instruments
· Good decision-making ability
Working Conditions:
· May require overtime and weekend work
· Ability to work in demanding, fast paced environment requiring physical strength, stamina, climbing, working in heights from ladders or platforms, and continual push/pull motions from using wrenches and chain pullers
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
