JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Spring Valley Village Police Department is currently looking for 1 full-time Police Officer.
As a Spring Valley Village Police Officer you will be charged with enforcing federal and state laws as well as the enforcement of all local laws and ordinances. This position will require the Police Officer to be available during nights,weekends, and holidays as necessary by their scheduled shift.
A Spring Valley Village Police Officer works an 84 hour pay period paid Bi-weekly with paid overtime if necessary. Patrol officers work 12 hour shifts with every other fri-sat-sun off.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/DUTIES:
- Effective telephone and communication skills, especially listening skills
- Ability to receive and give verbal instructions clearly and effectively
- Ability to concentrate on a task and remain alert during long periods of routine activity
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, make quick decisions, and apply established general parameters to specific situations
- Ability to read and interpret documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals
- Proficient map reading skills
- Proficient skill in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and office equipment (e.g., computer, copier)
- Ability to make sound, safe decisions under high stress situations that will ensure the safety of citizens and Officers on scenes
- Ability to effectively communicate with dispatch center via two-way radio and/or mdt messages.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and integrity both on and off duty.
- Ability to maintain and control situational awareness and scene safety at all times.
- Effectively enforce all federal, state, and local laws as well as all city regulations and ordinances.

WORKING/SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
This position requires a person that is able to maintain emotional control under stressful situations. The usual and customary methods of performing this job require the following: ability to work in a fast-paced, high-intensity work environment efficiently and effectively with frequent interruptions. Work in close proximity with others and often exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting. Job may require prolonged periods of time sitting, reaching and repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer, copier, radio and telecommunication equipment or systems, video surveillance equipment, multiline telephone system. Prolonged irregular hours. Must be willing and able to work any shift, including nights, weekends and holidays as the dispatch center operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED as required by the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic computer skills.
- Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
- Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement to be certified as a Peace Officer
- Pass drug screening (paid for by department)
- Pass back ground investigation
- Demonstrate proficiency with handgun during scheduled testing with police department qualifications
- Experienced Preferred but not mandatory
Pay:
$62,000 - $84,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications
