The Opportunity:
Perkins Eastman DC PLLC has an immediate need for a Project Architect I for our Washington, DC location. May telecommute up to two days per week. Little domestic travel may be involved.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Research, plan, design and administer building projects using knowledge of design, construction procedures, zoning and building codes, and building materials.
- Determine functional and spatial requirements for new structure or renovation, and prepare information regarding design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, cost estimates, and construction time.
- Plan project layout and integrate engineering elements into unified design for client review and approval.
- Prepare scale drawings and contract documents for building contractors.
- Use BIM design software and equipment to prepare project designs and plans.
- Develop, check, and coordinate technical aspects of architectural design projects under supervision of Senior Project Architect and Design Principal.
- Review proposed designs for compliance with applicable codes.
- Assist production effort, prepare project code review, and follow established standards. Coordinate consultant work.
- Mentor up to 2 architectural designers or interns.
- Update Project Manager and Principal-in-Charge regarding project progress and issues.
- Lead construction administration phase of project, respond to field questions and RFI, and review shop drawings and submittals.
- Inform Project Manager of client requested changes, and assist in producing bulletins.
- Collaborate with Project Designer to implement design.
Required Qualifications:
- Must have Bachelor’s of Architecture and 5 years relevant architectural design experience. Also requires skills (5 years experience) in: construction administration, including preparing submittals, responding to RFI, ASI review and response, and consultant coordination; making presentations to stakeholders, including primary and secondary school clients and the school community; compiling and filing submissions for approval by District of Columbia agencies; primary and secondary educational facility programming, and educational specification verification; working on renovations of existing school buildings; working on primary and secondary educational facility projects designed for net-zero energy, and built to ILFI WELL Building standards; computer-assisted design software, including Revit; Newforma; Bluebeam; data management software, including Word and Excel.
- All applicants must have a professional architecture license.
Type: Hybrid. 3 days in office 2 days working remotely, flexible days/working hours.
