Reporting to the Director of Category Management, this key individual will be responsible for commercial activities related to transportation and logistics management at OBE. This individual contributor will lead contracting and negotiations, partnering with cross-functional team members on the creation and implementation of a best-practice vision, strategy, and process to aid and improve cost and operational performance in conjunction with the Operations Fleet Director.
Additional Responsibilities
- Lead lease / buy contracting and negotiation activities for OBE’s fleet. Manage the company’s fleet replacement process in conjunction with Operations and Safety team members to ensure effective employee safety, asset utilization, and maintenance.
- Oversee OBE’s managed transportation arrangements for externally sourced freight (inbound/outbound). Manage the relationships and contracting with our suppliers, working collaboratively to deliver best-in-market performance and to realize continued efficiencies.
- Identify, negotiate, and implement optimization efforts for other areas of logistical spend including but not limited to: fuel purchases, brokerage services, freight auditing, distribution and ocean freight.
- Process standardization and improvements to lease and asset management practices. In addition implement procedures and tools to drive improvements, efficiencies, and consistency in fleet, shipping logistics, and distribution management. Ensure adherence by the organization and provide training as appropriate.
- Identify value creation and opportunities to generate value in fleet and logistics, working with internal and external partners in the spirit of continuous improvement.
- Develop and manage KPI’s to measure and communicate supplier performance, publish dashboards, reports, etc. to communicate OBE’s fleet utilization and logistics performance.
Here's What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field
- 5+ years of related experience with at least 2 years of responsibility with transportation and logistics
- Demonstrated experience with internal fleet and the use of Managed Transportation Services Companies
- Experience with distribution operations, transportation management systems, and third-party logistic providers
- Understanding of EDL reports, GPS reports, DOT requirements, etc.
- Sound understanding of finance principles
- Analytically minded with a track record of using qualitative and quantitative data to prioritize and drive sound decision-making
- Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate, both internally and externally, at all levels with sound communication capability
- Strong attention to detail, bias for action, and exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities at once
- Collaborative, team-oriented and skilled at working effectively with cross-functional teams in a matrix organization, and with leasing companies and operational branches (80+) to order equipment and minimize fleet costs
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills with a willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the job done
